The role:
We're looking for a passionate and driven Research and Development Technician to join our global R&D team at our Kendal facility. In this role, you'll play a key part in developing innovative new products and reformulating existing one, balancing efficacy, stability, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturing feasibility throughout the development process.
You'll collaborate closely with the wider R&D team and senior leadership to proactively identify and pursue new product opportunities. Success in this role will require strong cross-functional engagement, including regular interaction with teams across Kendal Nutricare such as Quality and Production, as well as external partners and co-packers.
The ideal candidate will be confident communicating with senior stakeholders both internally and externally, scientifically literate, and comfortable working with data, digital tools, and technical documentation
What you'll be doing:
Complete the design, development and launch of infant formula product including spray-dried powders and ultra-heat-treated liquids[LS1] manufactured at both our Kendal facility and co-manufacturing partners
Ensure all product development projects account for key requirements such as regulatory compliance, cost efficiency, production feasibility and raw material availability
Collaborate with the process technology manager and operation managers to ensure developed products are capable of being manufactured using existing processes and plant, or where this is not the case, identify suitable new processes
Transfer of agreed recipes at pilot/trial scale to production scale, issuing and controlling relevant documentation.
Deliver technical documentation recordings including formulation records, pack copies and technical specifications
To undertake evaluation of competitors products.
What you'll need:
Strong interest for the product development in the food and nutrition sector, with a particular enthusiasm for deepening knowledge in the infant formula
Strong scientific knowledge
Ability to learn quickly
Strong numerical and computer skills
A logical approach to problem solving
Degree-qualified in Food Science, Nutrition, or a related discipline
Preferred - 2 years' experience of working within the consumer goods / manufacturing industry
Open for occasional travel, primarily within Europe to pilot facilities, co-manufacturer facilities and industry events,
Desirable :
Good to have -Knowledge of dairy or food processing
Good to have - Experience of recipe development software e.g. Bestmix
