A day in the life...




As the Rearcrew Training Officer you will be responsible for the continuous improvement of Ascent courseware, the standardisation of delivery of that courseware across 1 FTS and training and development of the Rearcrew instructional cadre. Additionally, you will deliver classroom-based and airborne RW training to ab-initio trainees when required.


You will:.

Mentor, develop and supervise training delivery to the QHCI cadre. Liaise with 1FTS Standards and CFS Heli Exam Wing for courseware issues. Enact and review courseware changes. Seek areas for continuous improvement in courseware and processes. Running of standardisation meetings as required to maximise training quality and output. Provide SME expertise to other Ascent/1 FTS departments. Deliver high quality airborne, synthetic and classroom training to trainees Deputise for the Chief Rearcrew Instructor when required.

Actively engage in the 'Safety Culture' of Ascent/1 FTS, ensuring safety is always the highest priority.

What will make you successful...




You will already be a Qualified Helicopter Crewman Instructor from your previous employment in the UK military with an above average skillset. If not already an A2 QHCI, be prepared to gain that qualification within an agreed timeframe. As an Ascent representative you will display strong partnering behaviours with all stakeholders in the 1 FTS enterprise to ensure a collaborative approach to achieve successful training output delivery. You will be passionate about maintaining standards and be a focal point for standardisation.



The task will be rewarding and you will assist the CRI in delivering 1 FTS courses in accordance with the Flying Training Program. You will understand the importance of being able to work successfully and collaboratively while under pressure, and you will seek the best possible outcomes from each situation; you will understand the Ascent Core Values.


And you will also:

Be a role model of the Ascent core values. Hold a valid civilian Class 1 medical or military Annual Medical. Be able to demonstrate your instructional pedigree and experience. Have strong communication skills, be able to build relationships to work in collaboration with teams across the organisation. Have strong presentation skills, targeting a wide audience from customers to internal and external stakeholders. Be able to demonstrate courage and the ability to solve problems and make decisions. Have a critical eye for continuous improvement.

Ascent Flight Training was appointed in 2008 to design and deliver a modern and efficient flying training system by the UK MOD.


Created as a joint venture between Lockheed Martin UK AND Babcock International; and is responsible within the UK Military Flight Training System (UKMFTS) for the training design and training delivery that creates the next generation of aircrew.
