An inclusive and nurturing primary school in Barnet is seeking a dedicated and experienced Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a pupil with high needs starting in Reception this September.

This is a vital and rewarding role for a professional who is passionate about supporting children with autism, especially those who are non-verbal and require assistance with personal care.

Key Responsibilities

Work 1:1 with a Reception pupil with autism, ensuring a calm, structured and supportive environment. Deliver personalised support throughout the day, including in learning, social and play-based activities. Support the child's personal care needs with dignity and sensitivity. Use visual aids, sensory resources, and tailored strategies to support engagement and communication. Collaborate closely with class teachers, SENCOs and specialists to follow tailored learning and care plans. Track and report on the pupil's progress, behaviour and wellbeing. Foster inclusion and a positive early learning experience for the child within the wider classroom setting.

Ideal Candidate

Previous experience supporting children with ASD, particularly in an early years or Reception setting. Confident and capable in managing personal care responsibilities. Calm, patient and adaptable with a child-centred approach. Strong communication skills with both children and adults. Familiarity with PECS, Makaton, or other non-verbal communication methods is a plus. Must be available full time from September 2.
