Reconditioning Engineer

Kingston upon Hull, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

Ready to Fast-Track Your Engineering Career?

We're looking for a driven, hands-on engineer with around 2 years' experience in relevant sectors in manufacturing or a fast-paced process environments, to join our Reconditioning Team at CarSupermarket.com in Hull.

This isn't just another engineering role. It's a future talent position designed to develop you towards a Plant Manager role in the coming years. If you've got a real passion for cars, automotive engineering, or how things are built and reconditioned, this is the perfect place to turn that interest into a career.

What You'll Be Doing

You'll become a key part of the team that keeps our reconditioning operation running safely, smoothly, and efficiently, including:

Supporting day-to-day engineering activities across our reconditioning plant (process, equipment, and reliability). Helping to improve and standardise processes to drive quality, throughput, and safety. Working closely with operations and production teams to solve problems and remove bottlenecks. Using data and root-cause analysis to identify issues and implement practical improvements. Getting involved in continuous improvement projects that shape how our plant runs in the future. Building your people and leadership skills so you're ready for bigger responsibility.

What We're Looking For

You don't need to know everything on day one--but you must be curious, proactive, and ambitious.

Ideally, you will have:

A Degree / HNC / HND in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Process, or similar). Around 2 years of experience in relevant sectors in manufacturing or fast paced process environments. You will be able to demonstrate the ability to apply your knowledge and skills from these industries to engineering challenges and innovations. A solid understanding of safe working practices, maintenance, or production processes. A genuine interest in continuous improvement (Lean, 5S, or similar). A passion for cars, vehicles, or automotive engineering, and an interest in how we recondition cars at scale. A naturally positive, "can-do", happy disposition - someone who brings energy to the team and builds strong relationships. Strong communication skills and the confidence to work with people at all levels. A desire to grow into leadership--you want to run a plant, not just maintain it.

Your Progression & Salary Development

This role is designed as a stepping stone into plant leadership, with structured reviews to support your growth. As a guide, a typical progression could look like:

Year 0-2: Reconditioning Process Engineer (this role) Focus on learning our plant operations processes, standards and people. Deliver small improvement projects and take ownership of defined areas. Formal performance and salary review every 12 months, with increases linked to skills, contribution, and responsibilities. Year 2-3: Pre-Production/Production Manager Lead improvement projects and support day-to-day coordination of engineering activities. Informal people leadership (coaching, mentoring, shift support). Annual salary reviews, plus the opportunity for an accelerated review when you step into a more senior role. Year 3-4+: Plant/Operations Leadership Pathway Move into a Plant Manager role, with responsibility for safety, people, performance, and continuous improvement across the site. Supported by leadership development, mentoring, and external/internal training.
Exact titles, timescales, and salary levels will depend on your performance, business growth, and opportunities available, but the intention and pathway are clear from day one.

Why Join Our Reconditioning Team?

A clear, transparent progression path towards a Plant Manager exec level role. Regular performance and salary reviews so your development and contribution are recognised. Exposure to end-to-end operations, not just a small part of the process. The chance to shape how we do things as we grow and invest in our reconditioning capability. A supportive environment where your ideas are listened to, and where a positive, happy attitude is valued. Competitive salary, benefits, and opportunities for training and professional development.
