What will you be doing?

Key Responsibilities:
Contact service users from the waiting list to book class slots
Take payments for sessions
Deliver one-hour, one-to-one digital support sessions
Answer questions about smartphones, tablets, and other devices
Explain apps, Wi-Fi, settings, and digital functions clearly and patiently
Support users at their own pace, building confidence and digital skills
Provide a calm, friendly, and encouraging learning environment
How would you be supported in this role?

Full training is provided so you will be prepared for being a companion and know what to expect.
Minimum 2 volunteers working with the service users.
Regular contact with the Wanstead Activity Centre manager
Regular supervision with the Volunteer Services Team
You will also have support from our staff when you need it throughout your service.
Out of pocket expenses and Travel expenses will be covered in line with our Expenses policy
References available upon request (after 3 months)

One-to-One IT Class Leader,
you'll support older people in learning basic digital skills in a friendly, personalised setting. You'll deliver informal, one-on-one sessions that help individuals build confidence using smartphones, tablets, or computers--covering everything from sending emails to staying safe online.
Your patience, clear communication, and encouragement will empower others to become more connected and independent in the digital world

You will need to complete an application form and attend an informal interview.
If you are successful, you will need to provide references, undergo a DBS check and attend an induction. There will be training provided.

What skills, interests or experience might be helpful in this role?
Basic to intermediate digital skills - Confident using smartphones, tablets, apps, Wi-Fi, and settings
Good communication skills - Able to explain tech clearly in simple, everyday language
Patience and empathy - Comfortable working at a slow pace and supporting nervous learners
Friendly and approachable - Able to create a relaxed and supportive learning environment
Organised and reliable - Can manage bookings, timekeeping, and follow-up with users
Interest in digital inclusion - Passionate about helping others feel confident and connected
Previous experience in teaching, training, or support roles (helpful but not essential)
