Overview

Wincanton are looking for a Regional Driver Training and Development Specialist to join the Driver Training Team. The role is home based with regular regional travel to our sites. A company car is provided. Ideal candidate should live near Dartford.

An RTITB training qualification is desirable.

The department is responsible for delivering and managing all driver training, including on-boarding of new drivers, DCPC and specialist vehicle training. The role will be working with all contracts across the region to ensure their training requirements are delivered and their drivers are safe and compliant. The individual will be required to manage and deliver the training needs of the contracts within the region in relation to driver assessments, formal company inductions, DCPC course delivery and targeted training based on a driver\'s performance using telemetry data.

This is a Monday to Friday role, with occasional weekends.

How will you contribute?

  • Work with all contracts across the region to ensure their driver training requirements are delivered and their drivers are safe and compliant.
  • Deliver DCPC training in line with Wincanton quality standards.
  • Deliver Peer to peer DCPC assessments on other driver trainers and report findings to Driver Training Operational Manager.
  • Deliver driver core inductions in a timely manner to all new Wincanton core drivers, and temporary workers when required.
  • Conduct on road pre employment, temporary worker, annual, post-accident, return to work and performance failings driver assessments in line with Wincanton policy\'s and standards.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and advice to H&S professionals to aid compilation of SSoW.
  • Manage and keep up to date driver training records.
  • Compose and update vehicle and equipment training sessions theory and practical.
  • Plan and deliver classroom and practical training sessions for familiarisation of new or in-service equipment.
  • Providing guidance and training on safety matters for managers and supervisors.
  • Monitoring with operations driver performance through use of telemetry.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on telematics system fitted to vehicle.
  • Compiling safety and incidents statistics.
  • Ownership of training matrix of drivers.
  • Carry out relevant CPD courses and personal research and reading to keep up to date with legal, industry, and Company trends and requirements
What will you bring?
  • Must have LGV C+E license.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Hold a L3 Award in Education and Training or above (or equivalent).
  • Have a working knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of a trainer in relation to legislation, equality, diversity, inclusivity and meeting the needs of the learners.
  • Be able to demonstrate the ability to develop teaching and training material using the appropriate resources to support effective learning.
  • Understand and have a working knowledge of the Goods Vehicle Operator License undertakings for the UK.
  • Be able to articulate, check, and challenge EC Driver and UK Domestic hours legislation and Working Time legislation requirements and means of managing.
  • Have a working knowledge of safety schemes and accreditations including but not limited to ADR, FORS, CLOCS, LLCS etc.
  • Have an appreciation of vehicle maintenance and the Guide to Maintaining Roadworthiness, HGV MOT testers manual, and Categorization of Defects.
  • Work confidentially, and with integrity, reporting all issues regardless as to working relationships, without fear or favour.
  • IT literate including experience of Microsoft Office packages.
  • Experience of training assessing Driver Training Assessors (train the trainer).
  • Accident investigation.
  • Experience in Human Factors training.
  • Prioritisation and delegation skills.
  • NEBOSH qualification would be desirable.
  • International Transport Manager CPC (or equivalent) is desirable.
  • NRI (National Register for Instructors) qualification is desirable
