An opportunity has arisen for a Regional Tobacco Officer, supporting and enhancing the work of the 22 Local Authority Trading Standards Services making up Wales Trading Standards. This role will assist in combatting the supply of illegal tobacco across the Wales, and supports the Government strategy, "Stubbing out the problem", aimed to target the demand for and the supply of illicit tobacco across the United Kingdom.
Operation CeCe, is an initiative which focuses its efforts on disrupting illegal tobacco trade at a local retail level, enabling the seizure of illegal tobacco from retail and residential premises, disrupting the market and preventing fraud.
The successful applicant will lead the coordination and support of local Trading Standards activity across Wales to enforce legislation and disrupt behaviour in relation to illegal tobacco sales. The post holder will work closely with enforcement agencies and partners while having direct project management to deliver positive outcomes at reducing and disrupting the supply of illegal tobacco.
Employed by Newport City Council, alongside officers from the Regional Investigation and Intelligence Teams, the post holder will report to the Investigations and Intelligence Manager at Newport City Council.
Due to the nature of the role, the post holder is required to travel around the Wales and attend National meetings held by National Trading Standards.
Previous experience of enforcing legislation is required and knowledge of the regulatory role of Trading Standards would be advantageous.
