Job Description

The Registered Manager for a brand new Family2Family children's home is responsible for the overall daily management of the residence, ensuring the safety, welfare, and development of all young people in their care. The role is both strategic and hands-on, requiring strong leadership to guide a team in providing high-quality, person-centered care that complies with all statutory regulations. Key duties and responsibilities

Childcare leadership

: Set and maintain high standards of care, creating a nurturing and structured environment for children with emotional and behavioural difficulties, complex needs, or other challenges.

Safeguarding

: Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead, ensuring that all policies and procedures are followed to protect the children in the home. This includes managing incidents, investigating concerns, and liaising with statutory bodies.

Regulatory compliance

: Maintain full compliance with Ofsted regulations and standards, as well as the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015. This involves overseeing all quality assurance processes and acting on recommendations from inspections.

Staff management

: Lead, supervise, and mentor the residential childcare team. This includes recruiting new staff, organising rotas, conducting appraisals, and arranging ongoing professional development.

Placement and planning

: Oversee the assessment and admission of new young people into our home. Ensure that each child has an up-to-date and effective care plan tailored to their unique needs and goals.

External relations

: Build and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with external agencies, such as local authorities, social workers, schools, and healthcare professionals.

Resource management

: Manage the home's budget, resources, and administrative systems to ensure it runs efficiently and effectively. Ensure the physical premises meet all health, safety, and fire regulations.

On-call duty

: Participate in an on-call system to provide management support and guidance outside of regular hours.
Required qualifications and experience

Relevant qualifications

: An NVQ/Diploma Level 5 in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or an equivalent qualification) is the mandatory qualification for Registered Managers. A Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare is also required.

Management experience

: A minimum of two years of supervisory or management experience within an Ofsted-registered children's home within the last five years.

Regulatory knowledge

: A strong understanding of relevant legislation, including the Children's Act 1989 and the Children's Homes Regulations 2015.

Safeguarding expertise

: In-depth knowledge of child protection procedures, trauma-informed care, and best safeguarding practices.

Personal attributes

: Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills, along with resilience, empathy, and a child-focused approach.

Driving licence

: A valid UK driving licence is often required.

Background checks

: A successful candidate must pass an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Please note: If you are successful, the application to Ofsted will be submitted in November and takes approximately 3- 6 months. You can stay in your current job until we receive confirmation from Ofsted of the registration visit. However, you will be required to attend paid meetings once a week
