Responsible to: Manager

Responsible for: Cooking healthy, nutritious meals for children aged 0 - 5 years

We are a looking for a relief cook/practitioner to support on days our cook is on annual leave or sickness/could also cover within rooms with children if wanted. This role could be supporting all of our nurseries if wanted to drive a little further to make up hours.

Purpose of the job:

The cook will provide healthy, nutritious meals for all the children at the nursery.

Maintain a clean kitchen area and food storage areas.

Main Duties

1.

Prepare meals for the children

2. Cater to accommodate children with different dietary needs (allergies, vegetarian, intolerance)

3. Maintain the cleanliness and tidiness of the kitchen

4. Wash and wipe up

5. Empty and load the dishwasher, maintain it to a good standard

6. Inform management of breakages with any kitchen items

7. Maintain all kitchen items - including defrosting the fridge and freezer

8. Prepare lists for shopping

9. Put shopping away when it is delivered - ensuring all items go to the cupboard/area they are supposed to

10. Purchase shopping items during the week if a top up is needed

11. Change and update menus in line with the seasons and children's taste

12. Keep an up to date food hygiene certificate

13. Fill in the Safer Food, Better Business folder for the food standards agency

14. Deep clean the extractor fan every 6 months and record and file in the Safer Food, Better Business folder.

15. Empty kitchen bin and re-bag it every day

16. Sweep and mop floor at the end of every shift

Personal Specification

Essential criteria

1. Experience of preparing meals for young children

2. Alevel 2 qualification in food safety and catering.

3. Reliable, punctual, trustworthy and honest.

4. Professional and polite when dealing with others.

5. Act accordingly and appropriately around the children and on nursery property.

6. You need to have an understanding of what healthy eating means for the children and how to achieve this.

7. Flexible and understanding in all situations.

Be dressed appropriately.

Pay: 12.31 per hour
