Role Overview:
We are looking for a thoughtful and proactive leader to champion train reliability within our Performance Team on a 12 month fixed term contract basis. Reporting into the Deputy Head of Performance, you'll oversee key elements of our performance management system, ensuring our rolling stock and projects operate smoothly and meet all legislative and company standards. This role is perfect for someone who values collaboration, attention to detail, and creating a culture where safety and excellence go hand in hand.
Key Responsibilities:
In this dynamic role, you'll be based at the heart of our operations in Norwich, providing clear and calm communication with the train operator to support safe, reliable, and efficient service delivery. You'll offer thoughtful guidance to our customer, helping to reduce the impact of faults on running services. With a keen eye for detail, you'll document service issues thoroughly, using your technical insight and historical data to provide supportive, early-stage advice to Depot teams.
You will be the first point of contact for teams on behalf of SRSUK, contributing to joint investigations and performance reviews with empathy and professionalism. In moments of urgency, you'll respond with confidence and care to in service breakdowns, playing a vital role in first-response situations.
You'll also help others grow by safely mentoring Apprentices and colleagues, sharing your knowledge with patience and clarity. Your voice will be valued in continuous improvement initiatives, where your collaborative spirit will shine in partnership with internal and external stakeholders. You'll proactively seek out early warning signs of faults, review preventative maintenance strategies, and use advanced telemetry tools like RDS and OTMR to stay ahead of potential issues.
Finally, you'll create insightful incident reports, aiming to identify root causes before trains even reach the depot--making a meaningful difference every day.
Experience:
Essential
Recognised Electrical or Mechanical Apprenticeship or equivalent experience
Strong understanding of electro-mechanical systems
Experience with 110V DC, 415V AC, and 25kV systems
Able to conduct theoretical fault investigations
Proficient in reading technical drawings
Flexible and solutions-focused approach
Clear and effective communicator
Accurate and consistent record keeping
Logical, calm, and analytical problem-solving
Collaborative team player
Knowledge of Health & Safety and railway operations
Capable of working shifts
Understanding of network control systems
Meets required medical standards
Desirable:
Experience in safety-critical environments
Skilled in remote fault diagnosis
Background in railway engineering
Comfortable in fast-paced, high-pressure settings
Willingness to work overtime
Level 3+ qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
Experience in multi-skilled teams
Familiarity with Railway Rules and Regulations
