Job description

About us

The Sheffield College is a further and higher education institution dedicated to providing academic, vocational, and professional qualifications to approximately 13,000 young people and adults annually. Our mission is to transform lives through learning, advocating for inclusivity and diversity at every stage.

About The role

The Repairs Technician will carry out day-to-day repairs and maintenance across the College estate, including carpentry, plumbing, decorating, minor electrical, and building fabric works. The postholder will support both reactive and planned maintenance tasks, working closely with the Estates Helpdesk, external contractors, and site-based teams to ensure the estate remains safe, functional and compliant.

Main Responsibilities

Deliver multi-trade repairs (e.g. joinery, plumbing, decorating, minor electrical and building fabric works) across College sites. Respond to reactive maintenance requests allocated via the Estates Helpdesk, ensuring timely completion to agreed standards. Support planned preventative maintenance (PPM) programmes as directed by the Estates Maintenance Manager. Carry out inspections, identify defects, and complete remedial works or escalate where external contractor support is required. Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with College Health & Safety procedures, risk assessments and safe systems of work. Maintain accurate records of works completed, including updating the CAFM system or job sheets. Liaise with the Estates Helpdesk to provide updates on progress, delays or additional works required. Support external contractors when on site, providing access, information, and local knowledge as required. Assist with emergency call-outs, supporting the Maintenance Manager and Estates team in resolving urgent issues. Contribute to condition surveys, asset checks and other estates data collection activities. Ensure all tools, equipment and materials are used safely, maintained appropriately and stored securely. Promote a customer-focused service, ensuring minimal disruption to teaching and learning when carrying out works. Work collaboratively with site managers, caretakers and cleaning teams to ensure the estate remains safe and functional. Provide advice and support to staff where minor repairs can prevent issues escalating. Ensure all works are carried out with consideration for student safety and minimising disruption to learning. Support safeguarding processes where estates issues have potential impact on students.
