This will be a flexible, part-time position of 10 hours a week initially.

Job Responsibilities:
Assess and manage the intake of dogs:
Evaluate the needs of dogs coming into the rescue's care, coordinating their placement into either foster or kennels.
Handle all breeds confidently:
You will need experience in managing all dog breeds, including large and complex breeds, with a strong understanding of canine behaviour, training and care.
Adopter and foster coordination:
Assess potential adopters to ensure the best fit for each dog with the goal of a successful and permanent forever home. Provide ongoing post-adoption support to ensure a smooth transition period.
Support foster carers and relinquishing owners:
Build strong relationships with foster carers, providing guidance, support, and regular communication ensuring they have the resources and assistance needed for successful placements. Offer compassionate support to owners surrendering their dogs, helping to manage the process with sensitivity and care and ensuring the dog's wellbeing is maintained throughout.
Liaise with external partners:
Build strong relationships with veterinarians and kennels.
Community engagement and awareness:
Build relationships with local council dog wardens and other rescues, raising awareness of The Yorkshire Rescue within the community.
Record keeping and data management:
Maintain accurate up-to-date records on each dog, including medical care, behaviour assessments and adoption progress.
Manage email communications:
Be responsible for promptly responding to emails from potential adopters, relinquishing owners, foster carers and general enquiries. Ensure clear, professional and empathetic communication at all times, addressing enquiries and concerns efficiently and in a timely manner.
Knowledge of charity operations and compliance:
Have, or be willing to develop, a strong understanding of how a small charity operates, including resource management, fundraising, and financial sustainability. Ensure adherence to the regulations set by the Charities Commission, ensuring the rescue remains compliant with all legal and ethical standards.
Reporting to the board of Trustees:
Provide weekly updates on the dogs in our care to a member of the board of Trustees and attend board meetings to contribute to the development of the rescue's strategy and operations.
Fundraising and events:
Attend and contribute to local fundraising events, typically held on weekends and bank holidays to support the growth and development of the rescue.

Have a passion for dogs:
Experience or qualifications in dog care, training, and behaviour is essential, with a good understanding of complex canine behaviours.
Possess strong animal welfare knowledge:
A solid understanding of animal welfare legislation, rescue best practices and ethical care.
Be emotionally resilient:
The ability to handle challenging situations and occasionally distressing circumstances with professionalism and empathy.
Be an excellent communicator:
Skilled at communicating effectively with foster carers, adopters, relinquishing owners, volunteers and professionals. Able to work independently as well as within a team.
Uphold professionalism and integrity:
Committed to ethical practices and maintaining high standards of animal care.
Be a pro-active problem solver:
Be able to assess situations quickly, make informed decisions, and prioritise the welfare of the dogs.
Be organised and diligent:
Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail in managing records and daily tasks.
Have a working knowledge of Social Media:
work alongside our social media coordinator to engage with and promote the rescue on various social media platforms
Hold a full, clean UK Driving Licence and have your own transport:
This is necessary for the role as you may need to travel to various locations for rescue and rehoming purposes.

Hours
: 10 per week, initially.
Hourly Pay
: 12.21 (aged 21 and over), 10 (aged 18 to 20)
Expenses
(use of own vehicle): Current HMRC rate of
0.45
per mile (for the first 10k miles). In addition, the rescue's General Expenses Policy applies.
Probationary period
: Three months' initial, mutual assessment.
