Position Overview:

As a Research Analyst, your primary role will be to synthesise both primary and secondary research to support the attraction of investment and economic growth. You will play a crucial role in assisting the Inward Investment team in presenting a compelling case for investment, as well as supporting the newly established Strategic Relationship Management team with research findings.

For the Inward Investment team, the analyst will utilise public and private databases to provide robust evidence to potential investors, presenting a compelling case for investment in the West Midlands.

Key Responsibilities:

Inward Investment Research:

  • Utilise public and private databases to provide robust evidence to potential investors.
  • Develop, maintain, and internally market sector-specific analysis and materials.
  • Create compelling presentations for investment proposals.
  • Provide accurate and timely intelligence to create value propositions and marketing collateral.
  • Support lead generation in key markets and sectors.
  • Use secondary data sources to develop compelling propositions.
Strategic Companies Research Synthesis:
  • Analyse and synthesise qualitative primary data with secondary sources.
  • Maintain and develop a database of strategic companies.
  • Conduct coding of qualitative data from meetings.
  • Build and maintain an insight collection system.
  • Develop quantitative measures for reporting.
  • Write quarterly reports on findings from strategic account meetings.
Data Management:
  • Source and maintain core information products.
  • Continually update and refresh data to support data provision.
  • Develop core data sets and tool kits for bespoke data and analysis.
Key Skills and Competency Requirements:

Essential:
  • Professional qualification, relevant degree, or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and writing skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and team working skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to analyse complex information.
  • Good negotiating skills and the ability to influence stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable self-starter with the ability to drive projects forward.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and resilience in a multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Proactive professional development or a qualification in a technology or scientific discipline.
  • Hunger for knowledge and ownership of complex projects.
  • Experience working in a multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Strong commercial awareness and ability to build relationships.
  • Experience in a qualitative research environment.
  • Advanced knowledge/experience of economic development, inward investment, and public administration.
