Location: Consett (site based)

Salary: \xc2\xa327,000 - \xc2\xa330,000 + benefits + career opportunities

Working hours - Weekdays (8.30am - 4.30pm) with flexibility during busy season

Our client is the UK\'s leading independent scientific group, with this research division providing laboratory analysis to the agriculture, horticultural and professional pest control industries. The successful person will play a key role in researching and directing agricultural and horticultural trials relating to crop protection, bio stimulants and weed management so any previous experience you might have within a farm/agricultural environment would be beneficial. You will need to hold a related degree in either Life Sciences, Biology or Zoology etc and be keen to move into a Research based role. You will already have some laboratory-based experience (education or work experience) and be highly analytical with a natural flair for analysing statistical data to confidently report on findings and collate reports.

The role:

  • Directing agricultural and horticultural trials relating to crop protection, bio stimulants and weed management.
  • Liaising with and travelling to work with local growers and farmers to manage agricultural field trials.
  • Establishing and managing on-site glasshouse/polytunnel trials
  • To assist in the application of plant protection products as required
  • Assess the effects of agrochemicals, and other agricultural inputs, to trial plots (insect counts, disease cover, plant quality)
  • Data analysis, statistics, and interpretation
  • Report writing and communication with clients.
  • Undertaking any other daily activities in accordance with company standards and needs
The candidate:
  • Be degree educated in (ideally) a Life Sciences, Biology or Zoology or another related subject.
  • Candidates should have a relevant scientific background and/or some previous agricultural and farming experience.
  • Good knowledge of biopesticides and crop pests and diseases.
  • Strong communication, report writing, and computer skills are essential (ideally Excel, ARM, MS Word).
  • Must have good organization skills and the ability to work remotely and to their own daily schedule with minimal supervision.
  • Must be motivated, energetic, and enthusiastic, able to work on own initiative and as part of a team when required.
  • Comfortable with your working environment being both inside/outside when completing field assessments, setting up trials etc.
  • Willing to travel to farms to set up and run trials - flexible with being mobile as part of your role.
  • A full driving licence is essential.
Highly advantageous if you have\xe2\x80\xa6
  • Prior knowledge of IPM, EPPO guidelines and GEP would be advantageous.
  • PA1 and PA6 pesticide training is advantageous.
