Circular Economy Research and Innovation Fellow

Location: This position will be based at Bay Campus with travel to organisations across South West Wales

Contract: Fixed term to 31st December 2024

The Faculty of Science and Engineering is currently seeking to recruit a candidate for the position of Circular Economy Research and Innovation Fellow. The post is part of a Circular Economy project for South West Wales, which has received \xc2\xa3202,308 from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

The project will increase the resilience of businesses in Wales to rising energy and resource costs, facilitate their transition to Net Zero and help them take advantage of innovative Circular Economy market opportunities.

We are looking for candidates who are confident communicators, with a passion for circular economy and want to initiate and facilitate change. The role will involve co-creating and delivering an outreach programme to support Welsh organisations in their engagement and adoption of Circular Economy thinking. This outreach will include, conferences, webinars and individual business support to develop the capacity and capability of organisations in South-West Wales. It will connect them to the latest circular economy thinking and provide in-depth practical support and research to help them embed it within their organisation.

The successful candidate will use their relevant expertise to provide research support to businesses in South-West Wales on real-life circular economy innovation challenges and opportunities. They will use their experience in developing and implementing circular economy action plans, diagnostic and innovation frameworks to support collaborating businesses. They will also connect businesses to Circular Economy expertise in Swansea University, and other higher education institutions, to help them innovate in areas such as: circular product design through integrating a whole life approach; circular business models, such as servitisation; substitution of high carbon materials with sustainable, low carbon ones; establishing shorter, resilient and sustainable supply chains; valorisation of waste streams; and new market opportunities in the re-use, repair, re-manufacture, and sharing sectors.
