The UCL Department of Electronic & Electrical Engineering wishes to appoint one Research Assistant to work on a funded research project that explores and develops software for medical IoT devices.



The scope of this project is to develop a cybersecurity solution for wearable medical devices. The principal aim of the project is to publish research papers in leading international conferences and journals while developing robust and reliable prototypes for reproducible research and demonstration purposes.


About the role

Medical IoT devices suffer from security and privacy issues. The postholder will lead the design and implementation of a system to improve the security, reliability, and resilience of critical health technologies such as Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGMs) and insulin pumps. Moreover, the postholder will work with other UCL researchers to incorporate exact system software characteristics. The postholder will be expected to take the lead on the on simulation and modelling of the distributed quantum computing system.



This post is available from 1st December 2025 until 31st May 2026 in the first instance. Further funding to support the post may be available. The salary range is UCL Grade 6B.25-28 (39,148 - 41,833 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance).


About you


-------------


The successful applicant should have first or upper second-class undergraduate degree, or equivalent, in a relevant subject area. Given that research will be disseminated at conferences and through journal papers, the applicant should have excellent written and spoken English, and presentation skills.



Knowledge of networking systems and switching architectures for network interconnection are essential, as well as knowledge & experience of medical IoT device structure. Knowledge and experience in using AI/ML is desirable, as well as experience with medical IoT hardware.
