About the role

Applications are invited for a Research Assistant position to study the cerebro- and cardiovascular responses to hypoxia and reduced cerebral blood flow. The successful applicant will apply physiological monitoring and electrophysiological recordings in vivo to study the cellular mechanisms underlying maintenance of brain homeostasis under conditions of potential metabolic compromise. The project is based in the laboratory of Professor Alexander Gourine, Research Department of Neuroscience, Physiology and Pharmacology, University College London. The role holder will be expected to work under supervision of a senior investigator to produce original contributions to the subject area and undertake research within the Wellcome Trust research project to deliver on the objectives of that project both as a member of the research team and individually. The post is fixed-term and funded for 12 months (01/10/2025-30/09/2026). Salary is 39,807 per annum. A job description and person specification can be accessed at the bottom of this page. About you

The successful candidate will hold a Master's degree (MSc, MBio, or equivalent) in Physiology, Pharmacology, Neuroscience or a closely related discipline, and must have a strong first-hand experience in using in vivo animal models in research, and demonstrable comprehensive knowledge of cardiovascular physiology and fundamental neuroscience concepts.
