About the role

The post is funded by the NIHR i4i cancer early detection programme under the project "AI-DIP: Artificial Intelligence to support cancer early diagnosis in general practice. (AI-DIP)" and will be based at Imperial College London with significant interaction with NHS, UK AI company ILASP Limited, and US SOAP-Health company. The project is led by Professor Brendan Delaney and this workstream by Professor Alessandra Russo.


What you would be doing


---------------------------


This position is to carry out a research project on advancing robust and explainable hybrid AI technology powered by LLM in the context of healthcare. We will explore the engineering of a hybrid neuro-symbolic system, the modelling of relevant domain knowledge, and the training of Hybrid AI models on real world patient data. Research Associates will be expected to submit publications to refereed journals.



You will join a highly collaborative and multidisciplinary team, which includes PhD students and postdocs associates from Computing, Mathematics and Medicine in interdisciplinary settings with interactions with real stakeholders such as clinicians and patients.


What we are looking for


---------------------------


Hold a PhD in computer science, mathematics, or a related discipline.
Practical experience within a research environment and publication in relevant and refereed journals. Practical experience of deploying, developing, and maintaining software, possibly (although not required) in the healthcare setting. Knowledge in LLM, transformer models, design of experiments, and/or symbolic machine learning.

Candidates who not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be hired at Research Assistant level: salary scale 43,003 - 46,297 per annum.
