Join a growing team working on electrified, plasma-based technologies to solve society's most pressing challenges.
This project will develop a plasma-based process for the production of fertiliser by the fixation of N2 from the atmosphere, operating at relatively low temperature and atmospheric pressure. A distributed manufacturing process is envisaged, serving local farms. Unlike a Haber-Bosch process producing ammonia, a plasma can be quickly switched on and off in response to the availability of intermittent renewable electricity e.g. from a wind turbine and, or solar panel array.
What you would be doing
---------------------------
In the role of "plasmachemical engineer" within the Process Safety and Intensification Group, you will apply systems thinking combined with fundamental principles of reaction engineering, including transport processes and chemical kinetics, to understand and optimise the plasma-based process. The project will be primarily focused on experimental activities, supported by computational modelling using e.g. Aspen Plus and, or COMSOL Multiphysics
What we are looking for
---------------------------
The successful candidate will ideally have:
A PhD in Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline, or equivalent research or industrial experience
Experience of working with plasma-based processes in the lab
Experience in design and construction of experimental apparatus relevant to this project
Broad knowledge of chemical engineering, including the preparation of mass and energy balances, and reaction engineering
Please refer to the job description for a full list of essential and desirable requirements for this position.
What we can offer you
-------------------------
This is a full time position, fixed term for 24 months.
