Job Description

JDR Cable Systems are currently recruiting for a Research and Development Engineer for our US team based in Houston.



The Research and Development Engineer will support JDR Cable Systems' strategic objectives by identifying, evaluating, and developing innovative technological solutions. This includes leveraging existing market technologies where appropriate and creating new solutions when necessary.



The R&D Engineer will regularly report project progress, risks, and outcomes to senior management, ensuring alignment with JDR's Vision and Values. This position requires a proactive, analytical thinker with strong problem-solving skills and a passion for innovation in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.


Key responsibilities of the role:


Lead the development of advanced technical solutions, emphasizing HMI software and PLC systems for electrically and hydraulically actuated values and subsea robotics. Collaborate with management to define project scope, objectives, timelines, and budgets Prepare and present monthly progress report to senior management. Develop comprehensive technical documentation to support project milestones. Plan and execute prototype testing to validate functionality and reliability. Act as primary point of contact for external stakeholders including suppliers, partners and clients to facilitate clear communication, ensure technical alignment and support collaborative development throughout the project lifecycle. Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends to inform R&D strategies and maintain competitive advantage.



General responsibilities of the role:


Understand and promote JDR's products and services through solution-oriented customer engagement. Provide leadership, mentoring and development opportunities for the Houston Product team, while upholding JDR's core values and ethical standards. Support the company initiatives to maintain ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certifications by adhering to relevant standards and fostering team-wide compliance. Comply with all Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental policy, procedures and applicable legislation. Ensure awareness and implementation of the company's Health and Safety manual to protect personal safety and the safety of others affected by your actions or omissions. Collaborate with team members to research, analyze, and develop effective solutions for technical challenges or project objectives. Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance product performance, reduce costs, or streamline development processes. Work closely with engineering, manufacturing and quality teams to ensure smooth integration of new technologies into production processes. Participate in design reviews and risk assessments to ensure robust and compliant engineering solutions.



Qualifications:




Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Software Robotics or related technical fields). Minimum of 4-6 years of experience in research and development or a related engineering discipline. Knowledge of Oil and Gas IWOCS products preferred. Proficient in HMI software, PLC programming, and control systems for electromechanically applications. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).




Must have a valid Texas driver license and maintain a safe driving record that meets company standards.
