Job Description

At NCC, momentum is accelerating with exciting ventures into new sectors and a range of large-scale programmes underway, each focused on introducing novel approaches in composite technologies. We're looking for a Research Engineer or Advanced Research Engineer to join our Concept Analysis Team to help shape the future.



As a key member of the team, you'll help generate and develop innovative engineering concepts. Using a suite of software tools and processes, you'll play a vital role in turning ideas into reality--guiding projects from first principles through to prototype manufacture.


What you'll be doing





Our team thrives on collaboration, bringing together diverse expertise in Design and Manufacturing Processes which contribute to a wide range of impactful activities, including:


Concept generation, design space exploration, assessment, and down-selection. Engineering calculations to evaluate performance from first principles. Structural analysis and optimisation for lightweighting, performance, and cost. Requirements capture. Feasibility studies. State-of-the-art assessments and literature reviews.

You'll have the chance to work across multiple industries such as defence, energy storage and transport, aerospace, SMEs, and sustainability-focused initiatives. We'll help you find your niche and support your growth into technical leadership roles.


What we're looking for




Concept Development:

Experience in generating and refining concepts using systems-thinking approaches.

Analytical Skills:

Proficiency in methods ranging from hand calculations and tool development to advanced FEA.

Problem Solving:

A drive to understand and overcome design and technology barriers.

CAD Proficiency:

Familiarity with a CAD package (ideally CATIA or NX).

Verification & Validation:

Comfortable with experimental planning, data interpretation, or V&V processes.

Composites Expertise:

Hands-on experience with composite structures and manufacturing techniques.

Team Player:

Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with a range of stakeholders.

Industry Insight:

We're keen to hear about your experience in specific sectors, products, or systems.

Security Clearance:
