We are seeking a motivated and ambitious

Research Engineer/Advanced Research Engineer

with an interest in

Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)

of composite materials, and a specialism in advanced ultrasound . This is a unique opportunity to join our team and contribute to pioneering research while receiving world-class training and support to gain industry-recognised NDT qualifications.



What you'll be doing


Technical Leadership:

Lead technical aspects of various NDT-related projects, particularly related to waveform propagation and advanced signal processing in ultrasonic inspections of composites.

Research Support

: Assist in the development and application of non-destructive testing methods for composite materials and structures, supporting key research and industrial projects.

Data Collection & Analysis

: Gather and interpret testing data to evaluate material properties, detect defects, and determine structural performance.

Collaboration

: Work closely with experienced engineers, scientists, and industry partners to solve real-world challenges in composite manufacturing and testing.

Reporting

: Prepare and present clear and concise reports on findings, results, and recommendations to internal teams and external stakeholders.

So, what are we looking for?



Educational Background

:

A

Master's degree

(or higher) in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field. Experience in post-graduate or post-doctoral

research

, preferably in composites, materials testing, or non-destructive evaluation, through academic projects or internships.

Essential Skills

:


Fundamental understanding of ultrasound generation and propagation. Ability to capture, process, manipulate, and analyse raw signal data. Experience in processing large volumes of data is a plus. Competence in software tools (e.g., MATLAB, Python) for the analysis and interpretation of different data types. Signal processing experience is a plus. Ability to extract information from published research and apply via suitable software, to captured data

Desirable Skills:




Interest in

Non-Destructive Testing (NDT)

methods, with some exposure or understanding of composite materials.

Enthusiasm for specialising in

NDT of composites

Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present technical findings clearly to a range of stakeholders. A proactive and adaptable approach to learning and professional development. A team player with the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
