Research and External Engagement (REE) is a new integrated service dedicated to driving forward the University's ambitions for research, innovation, skills and enterprise. This professional service works to support our students, drive research excellence, upskill and reskill the regions workforce, strengthen relationships and engagement with our alumni, business and community partners. Through cutting-edge research initiatives, hands-on learning opportunities, strategic partnerships, civic leadership, and skills delivery, we empower individuals to thrive in an ever-changing world.
The role is based in our Research Excellence and Environment team, comprised of three complimentary areas working closely together; Research Excellence; Environment, Culture and Development; and Integrity, Ethics and Governance. This team supports our academics to develop within an embedded and sustainable culture; one that is underpinned by the principles of collaboration, integrity and responsible governance.
Our Research Excellence Environment Manager will provide specialist guidance and support to academic and professional services colleagues to optimise the quality and readiness of the University's People, Culture and Environment (PCE) submissions to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) exercises.
They will be the University's expert on the emerging requirements of PCE for REF, providing training for, and collaborating with, academic colleagues to inform best practice and ensure alignment with national REF submission guidelines.
They will work closely with research leaders and professional services to support and evaluate access to relevant data on the University's research environment, to inform PCE submissions and to enable the effective presentation of the environment via disciplinary- and institutional- level statements, adhering to the relevant REF guidance. They will develop and implement efficient and effective processes to monitor, review, and report on PCE indicators, providing data analytics support to help inform the University's strategic direction for internal and external initiatives relating to the enhancement of the research environment.
About you
You are a proactive and highly collaborative individual who enjoys being part of a small team and has experience of working in a large complex organisation.
You can demonstrate a knowledge of the development of, and discussion around, the new People, Culture and Environment element of REF 2029, and the possible demands on participating institutions that PCE might entail.
With excellent communication skills you can draft clear, compelling content across a range of disciplines to support our REF activity. To complement your written skills, you will be confident in developing effective working relationships with academic colleagues and external stakeholders alike.
You are comfortable using your initiative and effectively developing solutions to progress your portfolio. Compliance and attention to detail are important to you and the way you work, and you are informed by desk-based research, data analysis and evaluation.
