The Institute launched the Centre of Healthcare Education Research and Innovation (CHERI) in May 2017. Led by Dr Anita Laidlaw, CHERI's vision is to achieve a global reputation for academic excellence in healthcare education research, by supporting high-quality, important research focusing on relevant issues, and developing tomorrow's researchers.

The overall purpose of this role is to support the NIHR funded research project that aims to generate a comprehensive understanding of career progression and related experiences of doctors with disabilities working within the UK NHS to enhance retention via equity of training and career progression opportunities. This is a collaborative research project involving researchers at the Universities of Aberdeen, Edinburgh Napier, Queens Belfast and St Andrews, along with colleagues from the NHS. This project contains three workstreams. Two complimentary approaches (workstreams 1 and 2) will generate a significant evidence base on the career progression and experiences of doctors with disabilities in the UK, whilst a third approach (workstream 3) will engage with stakeholders and develop useful and impactful outputs and outcomes from that evidence base.
