Our mission is to improve mental health through cutting-edge research and education. By leveraging insights from basic science, we address clinical problems with the aim of improving patient outcomes and public health. Moreover, we take pride in delivering innovative teaching that is directly relevant to clinical practice and informed by our research. Join our team and help us drive forward the field of mental health research and education.
About the role
------------------
You will join the EPICare programme, a major national initiative to develop, implement and evaluate a new national digital registry for psychosis in England that could transform patient outcomes by delivering real time insights from better use of clinical data. EPICare is jointly funded by the Office for Life Sciences Mental Health Mission and National Institute of Health Research Programme Grant for Applied Research (PGfAR). The postholder will be the programme manager for the evaluation phase of the study, funded by the PGfAR.
Following a successful co-design and build, the EPICare platform is currently being implemented in Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) services 5 diverse, large and representative NHS Trusts in England. The EPICare registry will harmonise routinely collected electronic health record data in a Secure Data Environment, to enable us to evaluate the (i) epidemiology of psychosis in England, at scale, (ii) the real-world effect of NICE-mandated interventions on patient outcomes, (iii) inequalities in offer, and receipt of care, and (iv) the interconnection between these components of risk, care and outcome. We will evaluate the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of the registry to deliver rapid, real-world actionable insights to improve patient care and reduce disparities. Simultaneously, we are implementing a clinician-facing dashboard to flow these data insights back to clinical teams. We will also evaluate the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of this dashboard to improve fidelity to NICE standards of care and reduce inequalities in treatment for psychosis.
The postholder will be responsible for supporting the Chief Investigators on the EPICare programme (Professors James Kirkbride, UCL, and Professor Rachel Upthegrove, University of Oxford) in implementing and managing the programme grant. You will need outstanding communication, leadership and management skills to work with a variety of co-investigators and stakeholders, including academics, clinicians, patients, carers, and policymakers. We place patient and public involvement and engagement at the heart of what we do. You will be encouraged and supported to take a lead role in programme management, and to contribute to research papers and outputs where appropriate. A full range of duties can be found on the attached job description.
The post is funded for 12 months in the first instance. The programme grant has been funded by the NIHR for four years, with the last three years conditional on meeting agreed milestones in year 1. Subject to this, and satisfactory performance by the postholder, we will have the option to extend the role for a further 29 months (1FTE).
Appointment at Grade 7 (43,374 - 45,622 per annum) is dependent upon having strong and sustained experience in programme management in a clinical academic area, and relevant professional qualifications in project management.
