About the role
------------------
The Research Fellow / Senior Research Fellow will work with Professor Marinko Sarunic's group at UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and UCL Department of Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering. The post holder will be involved in the development of biophotonics and biomedical optics hardware and technology for ophthalmic imaging in close collaboration with researchers at Moorfields Eye Hospital. Working as part of an interdisciplinary team of engineers, computer scientists, and clinicians, the post holder will investigate applied optics, biophotonics, data acquisition, and signal / image analysis for retinal imaging. The post holder will proactively engage with researchers across the NIHR BRC at Moorfields, as well as collaborators in the UK and around the world.
This post is funded until 31 May 2027 in the first instance.
Salary range
Grade will be determined at appointment stage and will be dependent on knowledge, skills and experience.
Grade 7: 45,103 - 52,586 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance, depending on experience
Grade 8: 54,931 - 56,431 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance, depending on experience
About you
-------------
The successful candidate will hold a PhD in applied physics, electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, or a related discipline with specialization in optics, photonics, biophotonics or biomedical optics.
A strong understanding of the principles in general optics and optical imaging system design is essential as is experience with optical imaging system component assembly and alignment for related applications.
The successful candidate will demonstrate practical, lab based, optical imaging and data acquisition experience and will demonstrate a familiarity with signal processing and image processing using scientific programming tools.
A willingness to work in a clinical environment with human research volunteers and patients is essential.
