Salary: Grade R1 from 40,757 to 44,179 inclusive of London Weighting with potential to progress to 47,921 per annum inclusive of London Weighting through sustained exceptional contribution. (Pro-rata for Part-time)




Hours: Part-time (0.8 FTE, 4 days per week)




Contract Type: Fixed-term 14 months

Applications are invited for a Research Fellow position in the area of ecotoxicology. The objective of the post is to contribute the delivery of a collaborative project funded as part of the UKWIR Chemical Investigation Program 4 - Emerging Substances Endocrine Disruptors project.



The duties that are required for this specific role includes:


Take a proactive role in planning and undertaking the research project, individually and/or jointly, to meet the project deliverables and University research strategy. Document research activities, including collection, analysis and interpretation of all data, maintaining records and databases, preparing technical reports, literature review, and papers, as appropriate. As part of the project team (including external project partners), plan, support and conduct fieldwork at sites across the UK, following prescribed risk assessments, regulations, and Standard Operating Procedures. With the guidance of the Project Co-Investigator and in collaboration with technical team, prepare samples and conduct analysis of river water, final sewage effluent and biological samples for steroid oestrogens, using LC-MS/MS. Conduct the analysis of fish plasma samples for the yoke protein vitellogenin, using a commercial enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Support the project by co-leading the literature review work-package.

The successful candidate should have:



PhD in appropriate Discipline (Environmental Sciences, Ecotoxicology, Environmental Chemistry)



Experience of development and validation of analytical methods (e.g. LC-MS, GC-MS) and ideally analysis of pharmaceuticals or steroids in complex samples (e.g. environmental, biological)



Experience of conducting and supporting field work campaigns



Experience of conducting literature review(s)



Good communication skills and demonstrable capabilities to work independently and as part of a team
