The NIHR Applied Research Centre West (ARC W) Research Manager (Health Data) will have responsibility for the management of administrative data assets, electronic health records, work on applied data science projects and provide advice and support to the multidisciplinary research community at the University of Bristol. You will be working as part of the Applied Data Science (ADS) team and will liaise with researchers to collaboratively design and deliver solutions to data science challenges using a combination of practical and professional knowledge of data science and artificial intelligence (such as programming, statistical modelling, machine learning and data storage solutions). They will oversee the management of Universities CPRD and HES licences and usage as well as representing and promote ARC W, facilitating knowledge exchange by delivering a range of events, including networking, outreach and training activities.
What will you be doing?

Collaborate with researchers across ARC W, the University and external partners, supporting and managing a number of research projects, contributing data science management and expertise.
Oversee the management of Universities CPRD and HES licences and usage.
Engage with researchers across the Medical School and wider University to upskill and share knowledge around data management (such as working in Secure Data Environments), administrative data, and open science practices.
To support statistical analysis aligned with the aims of the NIHR ARC West
To support protocol applications, data extractions and research publications using the Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD).
Preparation of datasets for use in observational research, including preparation of necessary documentation such as data dictionaries.
Engage with broader networks working at the forefront of health data science in the UK (e.g. ECHILD, UK LLC, EHR group, SW SDE, NJR, renal registry)

This opportunity would suit an individual with experience managing administrative data assets and preparing analytical datasets to be used for medical statistics and epidemiology research, with particular emphasis on the use of the Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD) for health research.
The appointee will have experience working in data science, applied health research, medical statistics or data engineering and interested in working on a range of topics within the National Institute for Health Research Applied Research Collaboration West (NIHR ARC West; https://arc-w.nihr.ac.uk/about-arc-west/). The post is full-time (35 hrs per week) until 31 March 2026, based in the University of Bristol, and starting as soon as possible.
