Unitemps are recruiting for a Research support: GAL3ST1 in prion diseases and aging within the Institute of Prion Diseases. This role is for an asap start date and has a projected end date of March 31st 2024. This a part-time role at 20 hours per week. Payment will be set at Grade 6 Spine 21 - 28, \xc2\xa316.36 to \xc2\xa319.61 + holiday pay per hour. This role will be office based. Preferably 2 days a week.
The Institute of Prion Diseases is a new Institute set up within the Faculty of Brain Sciences, School of Life and Medical Sciences (SLMS), at UCL. The Institute incorporates the MRC Prion Unit which has transferred to the new Institute as part of the MRC\'s national strategic programme of transferring existing MRC Units to universities. The aim of this is to increase strategic alignment between MRC and UCL investments, enhance interactions and improve efficiency and flexibility, thereby maximising the resources available for the science.
The post-holder will be recruited to a research programme led by Professor Simon Mead and will be part of the genetics team responsible for providing prion protein gene sequencing for patients, sample processing and arching and biomarker research. This work underpins the introduction of a novel monoclonal antibody therapy for Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease introduced by the National Prion Clinic.
We are preferably looking for someone who has worked for a year in the lab doing at least some of the techniques mentioned below.
This is a challenging post for someone with experience of working in a clinical or research laboratory utilising automated lab equipment, and a good understanding of how it works. The post-holder will be required to provide research support for long term projects investigating the molecular basis of prion diseases, and potentially includes work in ACDP Cat III laboratories.
