The Department of Vector Biology at LSTM is one of the largest of its kind with a broad portfolio of research and technical assistance activities targeted at improving the control of insect-borne diseases. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Technician to join this dynamic research team on a fixed-term basis, supporting cutting-edge work in vector control and the development of novel methods to improve public health outcomes.


The postholder will support the development, optimisation, and validation of methods used in vector control and conduct research to improve our understanding of vector control tools and their evaluation. The position will primarily support a project funded by IVCC exploring the effect of volatile pyrethroids, such as transfluthrin, on mosquito populations with different insecticide resistance phenotypes. The role will also contribute to broader research activities, method development, and collaborative work that feeds into WHO guideline development.

Key responsibilities will include:



Providing technical assistance to supporting development and validation of novel methods in vector control Conducting standard and new bioassays for evaluating vector control products Supporting mosquito rearing and maintenance of mosquito colonies Preparing and maintaining laboratory records, and assisting with the analysis and interpretation of data Contributing to the preparation of reports and publications for funders and scientific journals Collaborating on the design and optimisation of testing equipment and experimental approaches Contributing to the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and risk assessments Assisting in the logistics of transporting samples and materials between international partners Compiling and analysing data using Excel, GraphPad Prism, R or other appropriate software Presenting data and progress updates in written reports and PowerPoint presentations

The ideal candidate will possess:



BSc in a biological, entomology, or health sciences-related field (or equivalent experience) Experience of working in a research laboratory and developing laboratory protocols Understanding of health and safety regulations and working within legal requirements Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and meet agreed objectives Flexibility and a commitment to collaborative research
