The Vector Biology Department delivers internationally recognised research on insect vectors of disease, supporting innovation in vector control tools and strategies.
We are seeking an organised, enthusiastic
Research Technician
to join our Vector Biology laboratories. The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team developing and applying analytical methods for evaluating new insecticidal materials and studying insecticide metabolism.
This is a hands-on laboratory role that will contribute directly to research programmes within the department, as well as to service-based projects for external clients.
Key responsibilities will include:
Prepare and develop HPLC and other analytical methods for insecticide analysis
Develop and manage Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for quantifying insecticide content in insecticide treated materials
Conduct HPLC and other analytical techniques such as mass spectrometry to quantify insecticide levels in materials
Set-up and perform biochemical assays to measure P450 and other enzyme activities
Prepare recombinant mosquito proteins for insecticide metabolism assays
Prepare and maintain adequate laboratory records of methods, sample details and results
Collate and assess data using Excel, Prism and statistics software
Prepare written data reports and presentation summaries for the Line Manager and funders
Provide initial analysis of data and draft sections of reports for funders and external collaborators
The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work as an integral and flexible member of fast-paced multi-disciplinary research team. You will be able to demonstrate:
Higher Education qualification in Chemical/Biological Science
Relevant experience of working within a research laboratory
Maintenance of laboratory data, book and record keeping
Experience of working to health & safety regulations and requirements
Ability to adapt protocols from published literature
Strong numeracy and analytical skills with the ability to collate accurate data
Experience in working with HPLC or similar analytics (desirable)
