We are seeking to appoint a Research Technician to join the Vector Immunogenomics and Infection Laboratory (VigiLab), part of the Department of Life Sciences at Imperial College London. Based at our South Kensington Campus, you will support cutting-edge research into malaria intervention strategies, working within a multidisciplinary and international research team led by Professor George K. Christophides and Dr Dina Vlachou.
VigiLab's research focuses on mosquito vector biology, infection and immunity, parasite-vector interactions. A major part of our work is the generation and evaluation of transgenic Anopheles mosquitoes that express Plasmodium-targeting effectors designed to block malaria transmission.
This role is integral to the Transmission Zero initiative, which aims to develop genetically engineered mosquitoes as a novel tool in the fight against malaria.
What you would be doing

As a Research Technician, you will be responsible for:
Rearing and maintaining colonies of Anophelesmosquitoes, including our transgenic effector lines
Culturing and maintenance of Plasmodium falciparumparasite cultures
Maintain smooth operation of our insectary and parasite culturing facilities over the weekend, ensuring work is not disrupted
Be on hand to assist with various laboratory techniques, including PCRs, gel electrophoresis, cloning, immunological assays (e.g., ELISA, Western blot, immunofluorescence), preparation of media/chemical solutions, tissue dissection, and nucleic acid extractions according to agreed procedures
Supporting postdoctoral researchers, PhD students, and external collaborators.
What we are looking for

BSc in a relevant subject
Demonstrable lab experience and ability to conduct work in a safe and meticulous manner
Demonstrable experience of working with Anophelesor other insect species
Demonstrable experience of working with cell/parasite cultures
Knowledge of parasite and vector biology is desirable
Excellent communication and scientific writing skills
Motivation and dedication to contribute to world-leading research.
