The Department of Translational Neuroscience and Stroke is home to a collaboration of interlinked neurological research areas, each one focused on advancing translational scientific knowledge to further patient recovery and management, and educating through teaching and academic supervision.



The Spinal Repair Unit (SRU), based in the Department, works to develop a method of repair for spinal cord injuries using transplanted olfactory ensheathing cells cultured from the olfactory system. The research currently focuses on optimising the quality of cell production, bridging material, and surgical approach.


About the role


------------------


We are now recruiting a Research Technician to join the SRU and assist the Principal Investigators in microsurgery procedures in rodents, maintain cell cultures and cell banks, and undertake immunohistochemistry and immunocytochemistry processing.



The post is available immediately and funded by Nicholls Spinal Injury Foundation for one year in the first instance, with the possibility of a further two-year extension.

About you

You'll have a BSc in Neurology, or a related topic, coupled with experience of animal handling, immunohistochemistry, and general histology laboratory experience. Excellent time management, organisational, and communication skills are also essential, as is the ability to work methodically to agreed standards and meticulous attention to detail.



This role does not meet the eligibility requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa certificate of sponsorship under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore UCL will not be able to sponsor individuals who require right to work in the UK to carry out this role.
