Job Summary


To provide quality, individualised care which safeguards and promotes the welfare of children and young people ensuring the quality of care provided is consistent and compliant with the Children Homes Regulations and Quality Standards (2015), The Guide to the Children's Homes Regulations and Quality Standards (2015), being mindful of the content of the Social Care Common Inspection Framework.

Duties and Responsibilities



LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT



To lead and work in a way which is consistent with the approach, ethos, and delivers the outcomes as set out in the home's statement of purpose. To ensure staff work as a team where appropriate. To understand the impact the quality of care provided in the home is having on the progress and experiences of each child. To assist in the development of the home and its practice using research. To support and undertake the effective consultation with children and young people, staff, and other stakeholders to support the development and maintenance of a safe and appropriate culture in line with the organisational core values and regulatory requirements. To support you undertake all training required for the role. To ensure you work in such a manner that demonstrates and understanding and celebration of the diversity of cultures and beliefs within the local and wider community. To develop and maintain good working relationships and work in partnership with families, local authorities, and external agencies. To act as a role model, to portray a positive, professional image and build positive relationships with children and young people, staff, and stakeholders. To lead and work in a manner that is conducive with the organisation's core values. To proactively advocate for children and young people. To undertake keyworker responsibility for individual children and young people, focusing on the specific needs identified in their care plan. To work collaboratively within the management of children and young people's behaviours, acting consistently in accordance with the organisation's behaviour management policy. To take responsibility for a designated area of work, or practice development as directed by the Registered & Service Manager.

MANAGING RESOURCES AND FINANCE



To maintain a high standard of cleanliness within the home. Ensure a homely, warm, welcoming, supportive safe environment, usable grounds and undertake checks and remedial action as required by the organisation. This includes performing household duties such as cooking and general cleaning, sorting laundry, checking children's bedrooms, and encouraging them to keep their rooms tidy. To support young people in effective admissions and discharges. To support and develop your skills and knowledge to meet the needs of each child in line with policies of the home and those set out in Children's Legislation and Regulations. To ensure the home makes best use of local community resources. To undertake auditing and monitoring as required by your line manager and the organisation. To support the provision of robust staff induction. To undertake overnight stays for training and children's holidays, together with providing additional support as required should there be shortfalls in staffing at the home and where the home would be left without appropriate staffing ratios. To operate the petty cash system within the required guidelines, ensuring any financial irregularities are identified and reported and money is spent appropriately. To keep high-quality accurate and objective records across all areas. To complete shifts and sleep-ins as per the rota. To ensure the provision of health care arrangements which may include the ordering, recording and, where appropriate, the administration of prescribed medication. In accordance with plans for the day, to organise and supervise recreational and leisure activities both in and out of the home to provide the children and young people with an interesting and stimulating life.

SAFEGUARDING



To ensure risk is appropriately managed and mitigated to protect children and young people from risks to their health, welfare, and normal development, both inside and outside the home. To assist with progressing any complaints, allegations or child protection concerns in line with safeguarding policies and procedures, ensuring all relevant agencies, personnel and stakeholders are notified. To maintain a good understanding of child protection and safeguarding policies and procedures both internally and externally to the organisation. To support the development of a safe and appropriate culture in line with the organisational core values and regulatory requirements. To see children and young people as individuals, recognising their trauma, the effect it has on their behaviour and seeing beyond this.

HEALTH AND SAFETY



To maintain a safe environment, complying with Health and Safety and other legal requirements. To protect children and young people from risks to their health, welfare, and normal development, both inside and outside the home. To take responsibility for the health and safety of yourself and others whilst at work. To ensure checks are undertaken on company vehicles in line with organisational expectations. To undertake prompt action where vehicles are found to be unsafe or not well maintained.

PERSONAL



To read and understand Company policies and procedures and ensure their operation within the service area. To report any concerns regarding poor practice to a line manager or other appropriate person in a prompt and timely fashion. To contribute to the development of the Company as a whole. To receive training appropriate to role and maintain an up-to-date training and personal development profile. To actively participate in supervision and appraisal, taking responsibility for your individual development needs and raising and addressing any relevant issues. To undertake other duties commensurate with the level of responsibility which may be allocated from time to time. All members of staff are required to maintain confidentiality in accordance with organisational expectations and requirements at all times. To be flexible in hours of work to meet tasks required. Collective responsibility for the care and security of the house including contents, confidential records, cash, keys, furniture and equipment, residents' clothing, and possessions. To attend meetings as requested. To provide a safe, warm, and supportive environment to our children and young people. To provide cover to other homes within the company if required. To share the responsibility for creating a pleasant working environment. To complete any other duties as may be reasonably requested by your line manager. To comply with all information outlined in the employee handbook.

Requirements



Previous experience working with children is essential, ideally in a support or childcare role. A valid driving licence is preferred for transportation purposes. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are crucial for effective interaction with children, families, and colleagues. Familiarity with developing and implementing care plans is advantageous. Proficient IT skills for record keeping and communication purposes. A compassionate approach with a genuine desire to make a positive impact on children's lives. Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare.
