Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated individual to join NCCC as a Team Leader for our registered children's home. The Team Leader at Next Chapter Children's Care (NCCC) is a senior role, providing leadership, supervision, support and guidance to a team of residential support workers within a registered children's home. The Team Leader will assist the Registered Manager in the daily operations of the home as well as play a key role in deputise for the manager in their absence, ensuring that children receive high-quality care in a safe, nurturing, and therapeutic environment.

The role includes mentoring residential support workers, overseeing compliance with regulations, and directly supporting the well-being and development of children in care. Key Responsibilities:



Leadership and Supervision:

Provide leadership and direction to a team of residential support workers, including mentoring, coaching, and supervising staff members to ensure the delivery of high-quality care and support. Support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day management of the children's home, including overseeing staffing levels, scheduling, and delegation of duties. Deputise for the manger in their absence. Ensure the home operates within the allocated budget.

Regulatory Compliance:

Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, children's homes regulations, and quality care standards governing children's residential care homes. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, policies, and procedures in accordance with regulatory requirements.

Direct Care and Support:

Work directly with children in the home, providing compassionate care, guidance, and support to meet their individual needs and promote their well-being. Act as a positive role model for children and staff, demonstrating empathy, professionalism, and integrity in all interactions.

Individualised Care Planning:

Collaborate with the Registered Manager, social workers, and other professionals to develop, implement and review individual care plans for each child, ensuring that their unique needs and preferences are addressed. Monitor the progress and development of children in the home, advocating for their rights and interests and adjusting care plans as necessary.

Behaviour Management and Conflict Resolution:

Utilise effective behaviour management techniques and de-escalation strategies to address challenging behaviours and promote positive interactions among children and staff. Respond promptly and appropriately to conflicts or crises, ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals involved.

Training and Development:

Facilitate training sessions and provide ongoing support and guidance to residential support workers, helping to build their skills, knowledge, and confidence in working with children. Stay informed about best practices, relevant legislation, and emerging trends in residential childcare, and share this knowledge with staff to enhance the quality of care provided.

Risk Management and Safeguarding:

Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and develop strategies to mitigate risks and ensure the safety and security of children within the home. Implement robust safeguarding policies and procedures to prevent and respond to incidents of abuse, neglect, or harm. Ensure that all staff members are trained in safeguarding protocols and know how to recognise and report any safeguarding concerns.

Documentation and Reporting:

Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all activities, incidents, and interventions involving children and staff, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and organisational policies. Prepare written reports and documentation as required, including assessments, progress notes, and incident reports.

Qualifications:



Level 3 In residential childcare or equivalent is essential, Level 5 in Leadership and management desirable. Must be willing to work towards Level 5.

Level 2 qualification in English language or equivalent. Must have excellent written and verbal skills. Previous experience working with children in a residential, educational, or community-based setting, with demonstrated leadership abilities. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with children, colleagues, and external stakeholders. Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, and best practices in residential childcare. Empathy, patience, and a genuine commitment to supporting the well-being and development of children. Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to meet the needs of the children and the home. Willingness to undergo background checks, including criminal record checks and child protection checks.

Working Conditions:



This position may involve working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, with varying levels of activity and noise. The role may require physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and assisting children with mobility or personal care needs. Evening, weekend, and holiday availability may be necessary to ensure continuity of care and support for children.
