To work as a member of the team in the provision of crisis care and support services for children and young people who may display challenging behaviours.
Duties
Support:
Assist the leadership team in the implementation of the philosophies and policies of the organisation.
Assist the leadership team in ensuring that each young person has their needs met through effective assessment and care planning. Review and monitor care plans/contribute to review reports as directed.
Support and participate in young people's social, life-long learning plans and recreational activities in line with care plans, trips out and holidays.
Act as a key worker where necessary to specified individual young persons, taking on responsibility for specified areas of care and support. This includes ensuring all medical needs are met and supporting the young person to advocate his/her own needs and wishes.
Facilitate and support young people in decision-making. Promote choice and involvement.
Ensure all Staff Members work in a way that demonstrates an understanding and commitment to the rights of people with emotional & challenging behaviour and/or learning difficulties.
Consistently apply strategies developed in response to challenging behaviours and contribute to the review and development of any such strategies.
Encourage young people to maintain acceptable levels of personal and environmental hygiene.
Record information about young people and ensure good communication with Staff Members.
Once trained, administer medication (if applicable) in accordance with Company policies and procedures, and ensure that medical emergencies are dealt with appropriately. Adhere to the Company's medication policy at all times.
Ensure that young people's personal property and clothing are maintained to a high standard and that any additional needs are reported to the leadership team.
Promote good practice in the team in accordance with the home's SOP and in line with all Company policies and procedures.
Practice maximum integrity in all dealings with young people's personal and financial affairs.
Communication:
Complete an in-depth handover with staff at the beginning of every shift
Participate in Staff and young people's meetings as and when required. Maintain appropriate records as directed.
Training and Development:
Maintain professional knowledge and competence.
Attend all designated training days/courses, on or off site, as and when required.
You must commit to monthly formal supervision and bring agender items to discuss.
Health & Safety:
Report immediately to the Team Leader any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a young person, colleague, self or another.
Understand, and ensure the implementation of, the Fairview Care and Support Health and Safety policy, and Emergency and Fire procedures. Follow and undertake risk assessments.
Report to the Team Leader/Managers and the Handyperson, any faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment, or any potential hazard.
Promote safe working practice within Proactive Intervention Care.
General:
Assisting Team Leader on duty to maintain the petty cash records in line with Company policies and procedures.
Carry out daily records as directed when on shift.
Make Visitors feel welcome. Provide refreshments/assistance as and when required.
Promote and ensure the good reputation of Care and sign all policies and procedure that relate to the organisation.
Ensure that all information of confidential nature gained in the course of duty is not divulged to third parties as stated in the confidentiality policy and Data protection policy.
Adhere to all Company policies and procedures within the defined timescales.
Ensure the children's living space is cleaned and well-maintained throughout your shift.
Carry out any other tasks that may be reasonably assigned to you.
Experience
Proven ability to work on own initiative.
Knowledge and understanding of issues relating to people with emotional & challenging behaviors & learning difficulties.
A commitment to a service which provides support to vulnerable individuals, and which is respectful and according to the individual's wishes.
Good communication skills written and verbal. Ability to communicate effectively with young people, colleagues, family members and other professionals.
Commitment to training and self-development.
To complete shift work which includes sleep in duties.
You must be able to work well as part of a team and on an individual basis and due to regulations requiring workers to be older than the children they are working with, you will need to be aged 21 years or over.
