Our Residential Children's Services provide safe, nurturing, and structured care for children and young people living in a residential setting. We support individuals with diverse needs, including emotional and behavioural challenges, learning disabilities, and safeguarding concerns. Role Purpose
As a Residential Children's Support Worker, you will play a vital role in the daily care and development of children and young people within our homes. You will provide consistent care, guidance, and encouragement, ensuring a safe and supportive environment that enables each child to thrive.
Key Responsibilities
Provide day?to?day care, including assistance with routines, meals, and personal needs.
Support children and young people in developing life skills, confidence, and independence.
Encourage participation in education, training, and leisure activities.
Safeguard children by following safeguarding policies, risk assessments, and statutory procedures.
Maintain accurate records, care plans, and incident reports.
Build positive relationships with children, families, and professionals.
Contribute to team meetings, training, and service development.
Respond to challenging behaviour with patience, consistency, and appropriate strategies.
Ensure the residential environment is safe, welcoming, and compliant with regulatory standards.
Person Specification
Compassionate, patient, and resilient approach to working with children.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work flexibly, including evenings, weekends, and sleep?ins.
Basic IT and record?keeping skills.
Commitment to safeguarding, equality, and child?centred practice.
Desirable
Experience in children's residential care, fostering, or youth support (paid or voluntary).
NVQ Level 3 in Children & Young People or equivalent (or willingness to work towards).
Knowledge of local community resources in Reading.
Working Hours
Full?time and part?time roles available. Shift patterns may include mornings, evenings, weekends, and sleep?ins.
Salary & Benefits
Rate of Pay: 12.50 - 13.00 per hour
