Job Description

Job summary



1. To undertake a lead role in ensuring the care and welfare of each child within the home is of high priority ensuring the home environment is homely, calm and safe and normal day to day routines are established including bedtime routines.

2. To build a positive and trusting relationship with the children and young people within the home and their families and any key professionals working with the child

3. To manage the individual children well-being and social behaviours, ensuring that behaviours that are challenging are managed promptly and sensitively.

4. To raise any concerns with the Registered Manager or the designated safeguarding lead.

5. To ensure the child or children do not face prejudice and their voices are listened to and that the children are able to express their wishes, needs and feelings.

6. To be a positive role model within the home and to complete normal day to day household tasks such as cooking, cleaning and laundry, where possible promoting independence skills for each child in these areas.

7. To support and encourage positive engagement in the local community, ensuring good relationships with local residence and any complaints are dealt with promptly.

Key Tasks:



In support of Key Responsibility 1:



1. To plan and manage shifts, ensuring children are kept safe and engaged throughout the day through activities within the home and community.

2. To ensure the Placement Plan and risk assessments for each child is followed and adhered to at all times, ensuring you are aware of any changes or updates.

3. To ensure education is promoted and supported and that each child's attendance in education is maintained and play an active role in attending parents evening and meetings when appropriate to do so.

4. To promote a healthy lifestyle by being a positive role model for the child and supporting and encouraging all health appointments to ensure they are attended.

5. To complete regular key working sessions, to ensure that the child is able to voice their views, wishes and feelings and to advocate for each child in meetings when required to ensure their voices is listened to by other professionals.

6. To assist and promote healthy relationship, including relationships with families and peers, ensuring all family time is recorded as required and any concerns are raised appropriately.

7. To encourage age-appropriate independence, this include small house hold tasks, managing money such as pocket money or accessing the local area without staff support.

In support of Key Responsibility 2:



1. To ensure that you act in a professional manner and have good punctuality.

2. To ensure all policies and procedures, as well as risk assessments, are adhered to at all times.

3. To ensure that you comply with duty rotas and are included on a 'rolling rota' to gain maximum experience in the working methods of other staff and to ensure continuity of care for the child/children.

4. To ensure that you have read the handover to check all messages at the beginning of work or at any point during the working day as required. e.g., following a day trip.

5. To ensure that you have written up daily or weekly logs and any incident / accident forms or physical intervention forms as applicable and that such information is passed to the Registered Manager within the agreed timescale.

6. To ensure that you are familiar with and follow Local Authority Child Protection Procedures 'The right help at the right time'.

7. To report immediately to the Registered Manager or Designated safeguarding officer of any issues regarding Child Protection matters.

8. To ensure that you are familiar with Policies and Guidance documents with regard to the care of children, as well as subsequent guidance such as working together to safeguard children.

In Support of Key Responsibility 3:



1. To be proactive and attend supervisions and appraisals as required.

2. To complete training in accordance with your induction training schedule and Personal Development Plan.

3.To raise any concerns regarding an individual member of staff's attitude or behaviour with the Registered Manager (if serious) or within your supervisions.

4. To be a positive team player by working with your colleagues and attending team meetings and being an active participant.

5. To ensure all care duties are recorded clearly and are in accordance with the child/children care plans. Medication given should be documented and any errors informed to the registered manager without delay.

6. To ensure any monies handled or spent are recorded clearly and any errors raised with senior manager on shift or on call.

7. To ensure that all staff maintain confidentiality at all times.

General:



1. To attend meetings and training as required.

2. To share the responsibility for creating a pleasant working environment.

3. To be flexible in hours of work in order to meet tasks required.

4. To be aware of Health and Safety regulations particularly as related to the upkeep of the building and its surroundings and keeping everyone safe.

5. To undertake any other duties that may be reasonably requested.

6. To safeguard and promote the welfare of children and be aware of relevant policies and procedures.

7. Adhere to and promote the Company's Equalities, Inclusion and Diversity Policy.

The above is not an exhaustive list of duties and you will be expected to perform different tasks as necessitated by your changing role within the organisation and the overall objectives of the Children Residential Services in accordance with the children homes regulation 2015 .
