Children and Adult Respite Support Worker

Purpose of the Role
To provide safe, nurturing, and person-centred respite care for children, young people and adults, supporting their wellbeing, development, and independence while giving families and carers short-term relief.
Key Responsibilities
Care & Support
Provide high-quality care and supervision in line with individual care and support plans
Support children and adults with personal care (if required), daily routines, and emotional needs
Promote independence, choice, and dignity appropriate to age and ability
Create a safe, fun, and inclusive environment
Play, Learning & Development
Plan and support age-appropriate play, leisure, and learning activities
Encourage social interaction, communication, and positive behaviour
Support children and adult with additional needs (including and not limited to ASD, ADHD, ARFID and downsydrome)
Health & Wellbeing
Support health needs, including medication administration (where trained)
Monitor wellbeing and report changes promptly
Follow infection prevention and health & safety procedures
Safeguarding & Child Protection
Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and adults at all times
Recognise and report safeguarding concerns in line with policies and legislation
Maintain professional boundaries and appropriate behaviour
Communication & Record Keeping
Communicate effectively with children, families, carers, and professionals
Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records
Respect confidentiality and data protection requirements
Professional Practice
Work in line with organisational values, policies, and procedures
Attend training, supervision, and team meetings
Promote equality, diversity, and inclusion
Person Specification
Essential
Genuine passion for working with children and adults
Understanding of safeguarding and child protection
Ability to build positive, trusting relationships
Good communication and teamwork skills
Right to work in the UK
Holds a Vaild UK driving license and access to their own vehicle
Desirable
Experience working with children or adults, particularly those with SEND
Knowledge of autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, or challenging behaviour
First Aid, medication, or positive behaviour support training
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and school holidays
Working Conditions
Shift-based role, including evenings, weekends, and school holidays
Work may be based in a community setting, group setting or family home
Subject to enhanced DBS check, references, and safeguarding checks
Job Type: Freelance
Pay: 13.00-13.50 per hour
Expected hours: 4 - 20 per week
