Job Description

An Exciting opportunity has arisen to Join the Resuscitation service as a Resuscitation Practitioner Band 6. You will be based at the Horizon Centre at Torbay Hospital site and work with colleagues and Patients across the entire organisation.



Working within a team, and wider directorate of dedicated, passionate and highly skilled professional individuals, you will be contributing to the development of colleagues from across all areas of our organisation.



If successful you will become part of a network of staff and teams collaborating to help support, advise and galvanise confidence and ability in others, which in turn affords better care and outcomes for our Patients and service users.



This will in part be achieved by working with staff clinically during emergencies and delivering high quality training to a vast spectrum of colleagues from all across our integrated care organisation (ICO).

The following is a brief overview of some of the core components of the role. (not Exhaustive)



The post holder will have some managerial and supervisory duties supporting junior members of the Team.



The post holder will report to the operational Lead and also deputise where needed.



The post holder will work autonomously but also as part of the team and wider Education directorate and Torbay family.



Lead debriefing sessions both post arrest (hot) and potentially more in depth pastoral debrief at a later time (cold).



Provide specialised advice and guidance on resuscitation



Attend resus Committee / Council meetings



Support clinical staff in the resuscitation of patients



Work within Adult and Paediatric domains in a resuscitation capacity



The post holder will be required to carry out project work for the education directorate as directed



The post holder will require flexibility to support other areas of educational need as and when required



The Post holder may be required to support colleagues clinically during critical incidents and during OPEL 4 conditions. (within scope of practice).



The Resuscitation service is a small yet dynamic team that operates from within the Education and People Directorate. This means that as well as contributing in full to a large variety of Training programmes and courses there are other service delivery needs afforded to the organisation. These include Mask Fit testing, First aid at work courses as well as clinical contribution including the provision of expertise and risk assessment.



As such you will be connected to and work with colleagues from all areas of the Trust in acute and primary services.

Adult & Paediatric Basic, Adult Advanced Life Support & adult/Paediatric Immediate Life Support courses (Resuscitation Council UK) _ BLS/ILS/ALS/PILS/PBLS



Resuscitation in special circumstances e.g. pregnancy



Defibrillation using an automated external defibrillator (AED)



Defibrillation using a manual defibrillator



Anaphylaxis - recognition and immediate management



Recognition of the Sick and Vital Signs



Be able to adapt training at point of delivery to ensure candidate learning



Give comprehensive and extensive advice and training on basic and advanced life support and the safe use, maintenance and replacement of resuscitation equipment including different defibrillators, AEDs, airway adjuncts and other equipment.



Support the medical registrar and crash team at the attendance of cardiac arrests in the acute hospital.



Support a range of staff in resuscitation practice whilst re-enforcing current resuscitation guidelines.



Provide a flexible debriefing service for staff following resuscitation when requested demonstrating leadership with empathy whilst meeting staff needs and the requirements of the Trusts.



Audit compliance of the resuscitation policies, procedures and training. Demonstrate comprehension in the issues highlighted and implement any action required.



Undertake first-line maintenance of resuscitation and training equipment used by the Resuscitation Services team.



Undertake comprehensive, quarterly audits and spot checks of the resuscitation trolleys/equipment throughout the Trusts in line with Clinical Governance and implement necessary action. Communicate findings to the appropriate people in a timely and diplomatic manner.



Collate, update and disseminate information regarding cardiac arrests throughout the Trust. Maintain and input data on to the internal cardiac arrest audit and the National Cardiac arrest Audit as requested by the Resuscitation Lead.



Have an active involvement with cardiac arrest review and root cause analysis.



Report discrepancies and act to ensure full compliance of the Trusts' Resuscitation and related policies.



Maintain and update policies and standard operating procedures as service needs demand.



Maintain competence in basic and advanced life support and other areas of resuscitation as agreed with the Resuscitation Lead.



Attend the Resuscitation Steering Group meetings and take responsibility to ensure that all recommendations are implemented within the Trust. Ensure the effects of changes are regularly monitored.



Undertake an active part of the integration of the resuscitation service across acute and community settings.



Act as a positive role model at all times for the resuscitation service.



Ensure compliance with anaphylaxis training across Trusts.



Develop appropriate training courses for the community hospitals around the acutely unwell, adult patient.



Support the delivery of training courses for the care of the sick child.



Adaptability to ensure ongoing relevance and accessibility of all resuscitation-based programmes. This may involve flexible-working or extended working hours on occasion as required.



Ensure credibility for resuscitation and clinical skills teaching, and maintain Professional Registration. The post holder will be supported in their clinical practice within this role.
