Principal Accountabilities
Manage the performance of retail staff and volunteers, doing regular 1-2-1's and performance manage where needed
To meet the agreed sales and fundraising targets and ensure that direct costs are kept to a minimum
Maximise Gift Aid income from donated goods
Ensure trading hours are strictly adhered to
Assume overall responsibility for the shop premises including key holding
Recruit, train manage and support staff and volunteers and adhere to the agreed Branch standards and policies and any relevant legislation which you have received training on
Complete annual appraisals including the setting of targets for shop staff within the agreed timescales and conduct one-to-one review meetings with staff
Ensure that the level on volunteers is sufficient to operative effectively a charity shop operation
Ensure that appropriate HR policies and procedures are adhered to in compliance with Branch employment policies and procedures, seeking guidance from the Retail Operations Manager and senior management as required
Ensure all relevant administration is completed within the agreed timescales
Be pro-active in the generation of donated stock, managing stock, collection efficiency and in accordance with Branch & Society guidelines
Process donated stock to the agreed standards and timescales
Ensure highest level of resale value for all donated stock
Ensure all financial management, cash handling, daily banking and security procedures are followed
Minimise stock loss
Manage the sales and administration of any bought-in (i.e. new) goods
Ensure that the store and window presentation standards are met including the rotation of goods, window displays and promotional activities
Ensure the appropriate standards of cleanliness are met and maintained throughout the shop including the sales floor, stock processing area, offices and communal areas
Actively promote all Branch and Society initiatives and campaigns to promote awareness of the charity
Ensure high levels of customer service are maintained
Build and develop positive internal and external relationships to ensure maximum income for the charity
Promote the shop in the local area using all available promotional opportunities (subject to any Branch rules for communication with the media)
Ensure compliance with the Branch's Health & Safety policy (including fire safety, risk assessments and security procedures). You should also ensure compliance with any relevant legislation which you have received training on.
To attend management meetings and training courses as requested
To accept responsibility for the management of all aspects of the store including management of any staff and volunteers, stock management, merchandising and financial procedures
To carry out such other tasks as directed by the Retail Operations Manager
Skills and Experience
Good general level of education, at least to GCSE standard or equivalent
Comprehensive retail management experience
Proven line management experience
Experience of managing budgets and accounts
Experience of handling difficult people management issues
Experience of cash handling and financial management procedures (including completion of sales records)
Excellent communication skills both written & oral
Computer literate
Ability to motivate and influence others
Ability to prioritise workload, balancing competing demands
Ability to meet tight deadlines
Have knowledge of health and safety legislation due to having been on training courses.
