The Retrofit Technical Manager will be responsible for overseeing the technical outputs of team of retrofit assessors and air tightness testing technicians. The post-holder will ensure all assessments, testing, and reporting are delivered to the highest standard and in compliance with PAS 2035, client requirements, and retrofit coordinator expectations. The role is critical in ensuring quality assurance, technical compliance, and best practice across MSS Group's retrofit activities.
Key Responsibilities
Coach and support a team of retrofit assessors and air tightness testing technicians.
Ensure all assessments, testing, and technical outputs meet PAS 2035 standards, internal quality protocols, and client requirements.
Act as the primary technical authority for retrofit assessment and testing within the business.
Work closely with external retrofit coordinators to provide accurate, timely, and high-quality technical input.
Oversee quality control processes, including auditing of reports, site inspections, and data validation.
Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and technical guidance to ensure consistent delivery.
Support training, mentoring, and CPD of technical staff to ensure competence and compliance.
Liaise with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to resolve technical queries and maintain strong working relationships.
Monitor industry and regulatory developments, ensuring MSS Group remains compliant and at the forefront of best practice.
Provide regular reporting to senior management on team performance, quality metrics, and compliance status.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
Strong knowledge of PAS 2035 requirements and its application in retrofit projects.
Proven experience managing or supervising technical teams within retrofit, energy efficiency, or building performance sectors.
Experience in retrofit coordination, assessment, air tightness testing, or related building performance evaluation methods.
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with internal teams, clients, and stakeholders.
High level of attention to detail and commitment to quality assurance.
Desirable:
Relevant technical qualifications in building energy performance (e.g. Retrofit Coordinator, Retrofit Assessor, ATTMA accreditation).
Knowledge of energy modelling software and data analysis tools.
Experience delivering training or mentoring technical staff.
Understanding of wider sustainability, carbon reduction, and energy efficiency policy.
Qualifications
Degree, HND, or equivalent in a relevant discipline (e.g., Building Services, Energy, Environmental Science, Construction, or Engineering).
Retrofit Coordinator qualification
Professional memberships (e.g., Retrofit Academy, CIBSE, RICS or equivalent) advantageous.
