The day to day operation of a reuse shop at theTip Shop, at Newport HWRC, including sales, cash management, stock, reporting and management of volunteers

Job purpose:
To manage the shop, to increase the volume of material sold through the shop, to liaise with volunteers and recycling centre site staff.
Salary:
24,960.00per year pro rata (14,976.00 actual)
Hours of work:
22.5 hrs a week to include Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday working on a rota basis
Wastesavers is a third sector recycling group that offers a range of recycling, reuse, education and training services in South Wales, based around waste management and recycling. We are an environmental organisation whose aims are to reduce the amount of material going to landfill and to benefit the local community. We are looking for a Reuse Shop Assistant to join our team to maximise shop sales and profits, and to help manage the day to day running of The Tip shop, including working with volunteers. The successful applicant will deal with customers on a day to day basis and manage volunteers in a busy environment, whilst also liaising with Newport City Council staff who will assist in accessing items for reuse.
This is a part time role which will involve weekend and bank holiday working on a rota basis. Some additional cover during the working week may be required to cover sickness and holiday periods.
Job Role:
To proactively work with Recycling Centre staff to source stock intercepted at the HWRC sites.
To sort and record all stock coming into the Reuse shop and to work with volunteers to ensure stock is sold through the appropriate outlet
To supervise volunteers that will assist in running the shop
Sales
To keep the shop organised and stock items displayed clearly and attractively in order to maximise sales
Ensure that the high standard of service to customers that is expected by Wastesavers and Newport CC is maintained at all time.
Actively support any fundraising activities and promotions
Implement promotions in the shop as directed
Actively encourage the public visiting the shop and HWRC sites to visit the Reuse shop
Shop Appearance:
Maintain a high standard of presentation, both inside and outside the shop and storage areas
Achieve and maintain high standards of housekeeping, organisation and cleanliness throughout the shop premises
Stock:
Actively encourage the public to donate saleable stock and promote other local reuse collection services for larger items
Manage, in conjunction with the civic amenity staff, the quantity and quality of stock being intercepted
Ensure there is adequate flow of stock from storage areas to the shop
Select & price stock at a consistent level in accordance with Wastesavers guidelines
Staff and Volunteers:
Work with the Area Manager to ensure the shop runs effectively
Create an organised a pleasant working environment for staff and volunteers
Ensure that all staff and volunteers comply with Wastesavers policies
Ensure equality & diversity polices are adhered to
Administration and Security
Ensure all relevant administration is completed on time
Ensure all financial, cash handling and security procedures are adhered to
Hold the shop keys, ensuring that the shop is secure whenever it is left unattended
Notify the Area Manager in the event of suspected theft or dishonesty by any member of staff or volunteers
Complete all required back office IT systems processes
Health and Safety:
Provide a safe environment that protects all staff, volunteers and the public
Comply with all Health and Safety regulations as per the Wastesavers H&S Policy
Report any maintenance or Health and Safety issues in the shop to the Area Manager.
