We are hiring an RF Design Engineer with hands-on experience designing power amplifiers from 4 W to 100 W. You will take designs from concept to production, carry out simulation, schematic capture, PCB layout, bring-up and test. Familiarity with antennas, matching networks and practical RF measurement is required. Pulsonix proficiency is essential.
Responsibilities
Design, simulate and develop RF power amplifiers in the 4 W to 100 W range, from requirements through to validated hardware
Carry out RF simulations, stability analysis, matching and optimisation for efficiency, linearity and thermal performance
Produce schematics and multilayer PCB layouts suitable for RF and mixed-signal designs, including controlled impedance and stack-up definition
Select devices, bias networks and protection circuits for LNA, driver and PA stages, including GaN and LDMOS where appropriate
Design and tune matching networks and filters, including harmonic control
Work with antenna engineers to review antenna choices, matching and integration
Plan and perform laboratory testing using VNA, spectrum analyser, power meters and load-pull or equivalent methods
Document designs, test plans, results and release packs for manufacture
Maintain BoMs, revision control and engineering change records
Essential skills and experience
Proven RF power amplifier design experience covering low and high power levels between 4 W and 100 W
Strong understanding of RF fundamentals including S-parameters, stability, load-pull concepts, linearity and thermal management
Competent with schematic capture and PCB layout for RF designs, including grounding, shielding and isolation practices
Pulsonix experience for both schematics and PCB layout
Ability to create test setups and interpret measurements using VNA, spectrum analyser and power measurement equipment
Working knowledge of antennas, matching and feed networks
Practical prototyping skills including rework, soldering of fine-pitch and RF packages and fixture design
Clear technical writing and the ability to produce high quality documentation
Must be able to work on site full time
Desirable
Experience with GaN and LDMOS PA design and bias control
Thermal and mechanical integration of RF hardware including heatsinking and airflow
Experience with linearisation techniques such as predistortion or feedback
Familiarity with EMC and radio standards and pre-compliance testing
Use of RF simulation tools such as ADS, AWR or open-source equivalents
Experience with automated test using Python or similar
Knowledge of antenna measurements and basic chamber practice
Tools and technologies
Pulsonix for schematics and PCB layout
RF lab instruments including VNA, spectrum analyser, power meters and signal sources
Version control and issue tracking tools such as Git and Jira or equivalents
Office tools for reporting and documentation
