Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and reliable Roofer to join our maintenance team for a project on the Isle of Islay. The ideal candidate will have experience in roofing installation, repair, and maintenance in residential and commercial properties. You will be responsible for ensuring that roofers are structurally sound and well-maintained, contributing to the overall safety and efficiency of our client's buildings.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

Inspect roofs to assess their condition and identify necessary repairs or maintenance. Install and repair various roofing materials, including asphalt, metal, slate, and flat roofing systems. Maintain and repair existing roofing systems, including sealing and waterproofing. Collaborate with other maintenance team members to complete roofing projects effectively and safely. Ensure all work complies with local building codes and safety regulations. Conduct regular maintenance checks to prevent leaks and other roofing issues. Remove old roofing materials and replace them with new, ensuring proper disposal of debris. Document work performed and maintain detailed records of repairs and maintenance activities. Communicate effectively with clients regarding roofing options, recommendations, and ongoing maintenance needs. Operate and maintain tools and equipment safely and efficiently.

Qualifications & Experience

Certification:

o Valid SMSTS

o SVQ or City and Guilds qualification in Roofing or equivalent

Experience:

o Previous roofing experience is preferred

o Experience with lead, zinc and other specialist roofing materials

Knowledge:

o Understand roofing materials, techniques, and installation processes

o Scottish building standards, including those related to fire safety and energy efficiency

o Awareness of safe handling procedures for lead and asbestos

o Understanding of various roofing materials, slate, tile, zinc and modern roofing systems

o Familiarity with safety protocols for scaffolding and access methods

o Proficiency in techniques to maintain roofs that are watertight and prevent water intrusion.

Skills:

o Ability to work at height and adhere to safety protocols

o Strong problem-solving skills

o Effective communication and teamwork skills

o Time Management and prioritization

o Skilled in using a variety of hand and power tools relevant to roofing tasks, such as nail guns, saws, and drills.

o Ability to interpret building plans and specifications to carry out roofing projects accurately.

Technology

o Be comfortable with smartphones/tablets for accessing work schedules and communication tools.
