The Early Years Room Lead will be able to manage and sustain a high standard of care and education for all children placed within their childcare room. They will be able to lead a team of early years practitioners, trainees and volunteers ensuring all children receive the highest quality care and education; in the implementation of a holistic approach to daily care and routines of the children at the centre in collaboration with the Lead Practitioner and in partnership with parents/carers; and providing inclusive play and learning opportunities for all children attending the centre and to maintain a safe, caring, stimulating and inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Health and Safety:
Safeguarding - understand and adhere to the centre's safeguarding policies and follow procedures to keep children safe and secure and ensure that others at the centre are adhering to the policy.
Share information and / or safeguarding concerns about a child or adult appropriately and in a timely manner to the Safeguarding Lead Practitioner.
Record and report any other concerns about any adult working in the centre to the Centre Lead following the organisation's procedure regarding whistle-blowing policy.
Ensure you and the team within the room adhere to policies and procedures prioritising health and safety legislation and requirements, while providing a safe and stimulating environment suitable for the age and stage of the children in the room.
Complete health and safety records such as risk assessments; hazard reports; accident and incident reports, ensuring Lead Practitioner and/or Centre Lead are kept informed of any actions required.
Monitor the environment and designate tasks to ensure it is clean and safe at all times.
Ensure that all premises are secure in line with the Maintaining Children's Safety and Security on the Premises policy and any visitors have signed in at reception and completed visitor's log.
Ensuring the highest of hygiene and cleanliness standards during care routines, for example nappy changing, food preparation and sleeping areas.
Promote Mr Bee's 'find, use and return' procedure to keep room tidy and free of hazards
Provision and Promotion of High Quality Play and Learning Opportunities
Support the emotional, physical, social, spiritual and intellectual needs of all children attending the centre.
Observe, extend and support children's learning, well-being and involvement.
Respect parents/carers as the child's first educator and develop positive relationships with them based on mutual respect and open communication during home visits, settling and throughout their time at Mr. Bee's.
Plan, prepare and deliver activities and experiences which promote children's learning and development, no matter what time of the day they attend the centre, using the EYFS and follow organisational procedures outlined in the Observation, Assessment and Planning Guidance.
Maintain accurate and effective children's records as outlined in our observation, assessment and planning guidance, ensuring all records and learning stories are accurate and up-to-date to showing a child's progress and raising awareness of any early years intervention which may be needed and ensure all key people in the room do the same.
Working in partnership with the Special Education Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) and other agencies and professionals as appropriate eg Speech and language therapist (SALT), Ofsted, children's centre staff, etc.
Demonstrate good practice in supporting children with additional needs and inclusion.
Carry out and meet the requirements of the Key Person role to a high standard.
In the Key Person role, create positive working relationships and partnerships with parents and promote parental involvement in children's learning and centre events and parent meetings.
Learn about development in early years childcare and education.
Promote a welcoming environment which includes parents being made aware of their child's key person; are greeted as they enter the room; provided with the opportunity to have a handover discussion about their child; or view their child's learning story.
Model a positive and professional approach to work which reflects the organisations ethos.
Leadership and Operational
Support all early years practitioners in the room to maintain and meet key responsibilities under High Quality Play and Learning Opportunities.
Organise time for each key person to complete children's records and planning during quiet times within the room and at time when Lead Practitioner covers in the room.
Maintain and ensure early years practitioners in the room adhere to policies and procedures for the day-to-day running of the centre, including all health and safety record keeping.
Work with Lead Practitioner and Senior Management team to ensure the highest standards of care and education are provided for all the children attending the centre.
Work with Lead Practitioner and Senior Management team to ensure the environment and displays are kept in line with organisational policy, changes in initiatives and good practice.
Work with the Centre Lead during inspections and to assist in implement any recommendation given by any regulatory body.
Demonstrate a flexible approach to day-to-day duties to ensure smooth running and operation of the room.
Learning and Development
Support student practitioners
Attend staff meetings and engage in self-development appraisals and supervision as requested by your line manager.
Demonstrate a willingness to attend training and to take opportunities for continuous professional development.
Attend all Mr Bee's organisation in-house training.
