Early Years Practitioner



Hours of work: Shifts can be between 8.00 am and 6.00 pm (20 hours - hours negotiable)





Purpose:

Equip all children to function as a member of a socially inclusive group and enable them to develop positive, co-operative and supportive relationships with peers and adults. Motivate children to learn and enable them to make the transition from dependence to independence, ensuring a high standard of care and education for all children across all the age ranges.

Main duties:



Maintain accurate records of all work carried out and provide reports as required, including referrals and IEP's To work as a Key Worker to a group of children under the supervision of a senior member of staff. Promote a learning culture at the nursery through your work with the children and their families. Be able to provide activities on a daily basis to encourage development and learning. Work in an anti-discriminatory manner, ensuring that all practice is consistent with meeting the diverse needs of the community. Observe and assess the development and behaviour of children, identifying each child's individual needs and endeavour to ensure that these needs are met. Promote self-help skills and encourage good hygiene practice. Take responsibility for maintaining the safety of the children in your care at all times and advise the Manager/Deputy Manager of any potential problems relating to safety. Attend staff meetings and, where necessary, parents' meetings. Evening meetings may be required with adequate notice from the Manager/Deputy Manager. Be conversant in and knowledgeable of the nursery's policies and procedures. Respect at all times the rights to confidentiality that parents and children alike are entitled to. Work constructively and professionally with colleagues ensuring clear and open communication with the staff team. Be flexible and able to move within the nursery to work within the different age ranges of children. Be prepared to attend training to improve your own and the team's work practice. Prepare snacks for the children in the morning or afternoon and ensure that meal times are a time of pleasant social sharing. Work with parents of special needs children to give full integration in the nursery. Undertake any domestic duties that may be required. Uphold the high standards of the nursery at all times. Observe and operate the organisation's practice guidelines, systems and procedures, including equal opportunities and health and safety. In the interests of the smooth running of the nursery, other duties as may be reasonably required from time to time. Establish good working relationships with parents/ carers to ensure that they are engaged in the child's education and development
The above mentioned duties are neither exclusive nor exhaustive and the post holder may be required to carry out such other appropriate duties as may be required by Management within the grading level of the post and the competency of the post holder.

Essential experience:



Experience of working with children, particularly with those aged from 6 months - 5 years Experience of working with children with diverse needs and abilities Evidence of experience in the principles of equal opportunities A good understanding of child development, learning and best practise in relation to a children's care and education Childcare qualifications, NVQ Level 3 in Childcare or equivalent Ability to evidence your knowledge of child development and stages of learning Good written and oral communication skills An understanding of child protection procedures and the ability to adhere to them Ability to provide activities/play experiences that are outside the daily plan but are led by the children Ability to work in an exclusive environment Willingness to undertake further training Ability to be flexible and to change hours depending on changing needs Enthusiasm for the job and a willingness to learn
