Job summary




RNAS Yeovilton is one of the Navy's two principal air bases, and one of the busiest military airfields in the UK. It is home to more than 100 aircraft operated on both front-line squadrons and training units.


The MT Driver is part of Motor Transport Department and sits within the Logistics Department of HMS HERON.



This position is advertised at 37 hours per week

Job description




You will be required to Drive specialist airfield support vehicles, emergency response vehicles, passenger and freight vehicles including coaches and heavy goods, (rigid and articulated), in accordance with national laws, MOD regulations and local standing orders. A day and night working pattern is in place to which the successful applicant will be required to work. Pre and post use vehicle documentation and maintenance will be required on all vehicles together with responsibility for satisfactory load and security. You must be prepared to undertake other tasks as required by the MT Supervisor; these may include general vehicle maintenance and husbandry.


The responsibilities will include freight and passenger vehicles locally and throughout the UK, providing airfield support services, general vehicle inspection & low level maintenance, washing/cleaning vehicles as necessary.


The successful applicant will be expected to wear appropriate PPE or smart wear if driving VIPs. Blue Light and Ambulance Driving will also be required and training for this will be supplied. You're expected working Rota will operate like below:


Sweeper Shift 07:00- 17:00

Long Days 08:30- 18:30

Afternoons 14:00- 23:00

Blue Lights Earlies 07:00 - 15:15 Blue Lights Lates 12:23:00 Domestic 07:30 - 16:30

Person specification




A willingness to be flexible and undertake planned or short notice overtime, including weekends is essential. The successful applicant will be required for long distance journeys and partake if necessary during surge periods.


Essential qualifications are a DVLA licence HGV or PCV, desirable work experience in a Motor Transport environment.

The post does not offer relocation expenses.


External recruits who join the MOD who are new to the Civil Service will be subject to a six-month probation period.

You will be asked Experience questions based on your experience in a motor transport environment You will undertake a practical assessment. This assessment will focus on road legality and tasking a Motor Transport Vehicle.
