Main Purpose of Job:
The Safeguarding Officer will work as part of the central safeguarding team, supporting the effective operation of the safeguarding service on a day-to-day basis in school. The role and responsibilities of the Safeguarding Officer are detailed below. We are looking for someone with experience of working in safeguarding and pastoral support within education and knowledge of external agencies including social care thresholds.
Main Duties and Responsibilities to include:
To support the Director of Safeguarding (DSL) and Deputy DSLs in all aspects of safeguarding and student welfare across the UTC
To ensure that the safeguarding provision in the UTC meets the needs of students and parents and that it enables students to achieve consistently strong outcomes
To act as the first point of contact for any safeguarding, child and adult protection concerns, providing timely, relevant support and advice in order to safeguard the student.
To make timely external referrals to a range of agencies including Children's Social Care, in order to appropriately safeguard and support students
To attend a range of external meetings and online meetings- including child protection conferences, core groups, child in need meetings, team around the family, adult protection meetings - ensuring adherence to the guidelines and requirements for attending such meetings.
To complete EHAs where necessary and act as the lead professional where appropriate, working in partnership with relevant agencies.
To attend internal safeguarding related meetings
Provide support and challenge to parents/ carers around safeguarding issues
Liaise with other agencies in relation to safeguarding and welfare support and referrals
Establish and maintain a working relationship with relevant statutory, voluntary and community agencies
Offer advice and guidance for staff
Lead on direct work with children as necessary;
Be responsible and committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
To keep informed of current legislation, statutory and other guidance with regards to safeguarding, child and adult protection, cascading the information accordingly.
To keep informed of current legislation, statutory and other guidance with regards to data protection and confidentiality.
To maintain up to date, accurate, confidential records.
To implement best practice in relation to safeguarding
To attend LA safeguarding training.
To participate in UTC events to promote and advise on safeguarding.
To establish and maintain positive and professional relationships with students, parents/carers, colleagues and others as part of duties.
To carry out any other duties as reasonably required by the Principal.
Conditions
Term time - 39 weeks (38 weeks plus 5 Inset days)
Usual daily working hours total 36.5 hours per week, with 1 hour unpaid lunch:
Monday 8:30 am to 5:00pm
Tuesday 8:30 am to 5:00pm
Wednesday 8:30 am to 5:00pm
Thursday 8:30 am to 5:00pm
Friday 8:30 am to 4:00pm
Holidays to be taken outside of term time except with the agreement of the Principal.
The post holder will have responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people they come into contact with.
