About the Opportunity
Jacobs is now hiring Safety Case Engineers across all levels from entry to principal level to join our Radioactive Waste Management and Disposal (WM&D) business. The role can be based at Harwell, London or other locations will be willing considered. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary business (including chemists, physicists, geologists, engineers, safety case specialists, mathematicians and project managers) that delivers a range of projects on behalf of both UK-based and international customer. The primary focus of the WM&D Safety Case Team is the provision of safety analysis and safety case support to waste management and decommissioning projects, supporting licensees, future licensees, waste management organisations and the regulator. Alongside this, there are opportunities to support clients across the full Nuclear Lifecycle, including:

  • Prospective licensees, reactor designers and vendors
  • Nuclear site operators
  • Industry bodies and regulators
  • Research institutions

The role may require travel to other sites to meet client expectations and facilitate efficient and effective delivery.

Responsibilities:
As a Safety Case Engineer, you will also be responsible for implementing Safety Case Procedures and maintaining the required standards of technical quality in the project work. Your responsibilities will be supporting various and diverse nuclear clients providing Nuclear Safety Case support through the full life cycle project requirements including:
  • Participating in Hazard Identification Studies (HAZIDs, HAZOPs, SWIFTs etc)
  • Supporting the preparation of Qualitative and Quantitative Risk Assessments (e.g. FTAs, FMEA, ETA, QRA)
  • Supporting the preparation Safety Case Documentation and Reports
  • Preparing Technical Reports
Here\xe2\x80\x99s What You\xe2\x80\x99ll Need:
  • You will be degree qualified in an appropriate scientific or engineering discipline with Safety Case experience
  • You will have sound technical knowledge and to understand Safety Assessment Principles to modern standards of safety case preparation.
  • Safety studies and assessment e.g FMEA, HAZID, ALARP
  • Development of safety functional requirements
  • Operating in an environment with a graded approach to quality processes
  • For more senior roles you will be able to demonstrate successful delivery of nuclear safety case deliverables and strategy on complex projects and development of more junior members of staff.
  • Technical knowledge of their discipline with an ability to make good engineering judgement whilst acknowledging limitations of knowledge.
  • Understand Safety Assessment Principles and their role and application to modern standards safety case preparation.
  • Knowledge and experience in the development of Safety Case documentation in the Nuclear Industry or another highly regulated industry.
